Fair play to Ralph and the players that is a great bonus point! I think even if I don’t like the look of Ralph’s team selection, he probably knows what he’s doing
What a great result. Every single player gave everything. Really impressed with our defensive resilience against another team that has been scoring for fun. My take on the penalty. Walker threw himself into Armstrong and knocked him over with his arse, before bouncing up and down on him twice. I called it in real time and haven’t changed my view. Penalty. If the penalty had been awarded to City, then I don’t think that VAR would have even asked the ref to go check the tv - that was his get out jail free card and after spending the previous 2-3 minutes surrounded by City players, I think it was obvious which way the decision was going to go. I hope that is investigated because no way should the ref be standing with 5 or 6 City players, getting their views. He should have walked away. Tino and potential red card. No! I have been saying for a long time that when two players go for the ball, sometimes one will get caught in the follow through or by a trailing leg. If the ball has been won cleanly and the coming together is accidental, then it should be treated as a “coming together”, UNLESS it is deemed dangerous. Tino cleanly won the ball and yes his studs made contact with the other player’s ankle, just above his boot (3 inches off the ground?) but that was as much to do with the opponent arriving late for the ball, not Tino. IF the contact had been 3 or 4 inches higher I could understand if a red was given, but I wouldn’t be happy with it because of my belief that not every contact has to be deemed a foul or a card offence.
So pleased that my optimism has been rewarded, fantastic result and effort by all concerned. Well done Saints!!!!
Thought we’d get something today. Even had us to draw in my accumulator! The pen business is a unfortunate. If that is given for city at St Mary’s or the Ethihad, I don’t think it’s going to var
For all the ‘confidence with hindsight’, only one of us had the game as a draw in the predictions league*. Just saying… *Chilcs had us down for a win, but then he’s mad as a balloon.
Why did the ref allow himself to be surrounded by city players? I thought he had to send them away….. and try not to influence him?
That happens every week whenever a big decision like a red or a pen happens. We were on the receiving end today but I’m sure weve been just as guilty of it in the past
That was one of the best performances Ive seen from Ralphs team. Finishing let us down, Armstrong, Adams and Redmond could have all done a bit better but they all made up for it elsewhere on the pitch. The mid and defence were immense again. Romeu my MOTM. That penalty 'decision' should be used in every refereeing course in the world going forward. Ref knew it was a foul, it wasn't unclear, there was no doubt but the pressure and the opportunity to change it did its thing. Awful, awful example of VAR and refereeing.
I love how involved Lyanco is on all the Saints and the other player’s social media posts. He’s just replied with a shrugging shoulder to the club post of the ‘penalty’.
Nope. We’re actually pretty ****e at doing that stuff. Don’t agree with any of it but we definitely need to play “the game” more.
Anybody else find themselves thinking we would have wont that with Danny Ings? Hopefully AdamA gets into the swing again, he's not getting the easy chances at the moment.
