It's never really been off since I first mentioned it a few months ago, the guy visited and was quoted a figure, he went away and really took his time to come to a decision about it all and its looking favourable now, so hopefully he made the right one
We desperately need this to happen. I really thought we have backed the team this summer and spent something. But it was shocking, we just don't give ourselves a chance.
Perhaps controversial (I mean, not really), but I don't think it's the players, it's the tactics. We're at a higher level where clubs have more advanced tactical scouting, better coaching and, crucially, better managers. If we play the same system over and over, we're already at a disadvantage before we've even kicked off. You can see that in parts of games, the players are gelling and there's some decent stuff, but we're undone because we just do the same thing over and over. If I decide to put a nail in the wall with a screwdriver, it's going to be far more difficult and unproductive than if I'd used a hammer. The end result might be the same 10% of the time, but the rest it won't work and I could have saved myself the pain by doing the obvious thing. That's what it feels like. We see these flashes in games where we look like we know what we're doing and that it's working, but then the other team seems to just work it out and set apart demolishing us. This whole "philosophy" of "we're a 4-3-3 club" is shackling us just as badly as any transfer embargo. It's normal to have a main tactic, but to not have anything else at Championship level is ridiculous, especially given the flexibility of the players we have on offer.
What exactly made you think we'd have backed the team this summer? We're owed by Allams and they've already told us there will be no investment. Please try to keep up, Sharky
I agree and yesterday also made it clear that we're up against teams that have much more pace too. Some things we got away with last year we simply won't this year so being so rigid and relying on individual ability to beat a player etc is much less likely to work. Add that to the fact every team can see what we're doing this week and know we'll be doing exactly the same next week is just making it too easy for other teams.
Even more mind blowing that the current incumbents played the self safe system during our last time in the Championship, got hammered out of sight, and yet still think it works ! It's a farce, and without a change at the helm it's going to continue down the same slippery path.
Nah it's not it's populist bollocks. Sheff United played their weird version of 3-5-2 every game and it got them to the PL and then almost into Europe. They didn't change it for anyone. Most clubs don't. Us playing 4-3-3 every week is absolutely normal, same as what most clubs do. McCann might be ****, but call him **** for the right reasons.
Yes but all systems are tweaked aren’t they Ours isn’t Callum elder covered acres yesterday so do lewie but there was one instance in the last five where lewie was just so ****ed he couldn’t make it As it turned out it was a **** cross from potter but he shoulda been there It asks way too much of our full backs This system. and consequently our centre mids who are covering across hence Smallwood getting booked for being dragged out to the touch line. these aren’t on the whole rubbish players but it’s a rubbish system that other teams can play through.
Yup. Whether it’s the formation or something more complex, our current system asks way too much of our full-backs and not enough of our forwards. Lewie and Elder covered every blade of grass on their sides of the pitch yesterday and were frigged by the end. Meanwhile, the wingers get the ball and have one trick, which is to cut inside (or try to) in order to create a chance or shoot. KLP and Wilks are talented boys but **** me dead, do they need better coaching and instructions than what they’re getting now. It might’ve worked in League 1 against shoddy defences but Championship defenders are too smart for the ‘cut inside’ trick. It’s too one-dimensional. Even Bowen was susceptible to it at first but Adkins and his staff coached him well and he became a much better and all-rounded forward because of it. I’ve said it before, but KLP and Wilks under McCann are light years behind what Bowen was under Adkins.
Agree to an extent, but good players also see themselfs that the "cut Inside trick" doesn't work or anything that they are trying and isn't effective and makes changes to their game, improves and develops as a player. That's why players like Bowen go on to do what they have done and players who don't do the above get stale and their careers don't develop..... It is not just down to the coach/manger. People have said a fair few times it was the players who got us promoted last season and not grant, so those same players who would happy take the praise last season, need to step up and accept the fact they are being poor this season. It can't be the players that got us up last season but all grants fault that we are poor this season.
Me neither, being an armchair manager, I’d suggest 5-3-2. Huddlestone between Greaves and Bernard/Alfie, let’s the full-backs freedom to get forward without them gassing themselves out, and two forwards in the centre. Could play KLP, Wilks, Tyler Smith or Magennis in the front two.
Come at me, bro Sheffield United had backing, they had the luxury of free reign in the transfer market backed by wealthy owners. We don't have that, so we have to make do. They bought and loaned actual Championship players, while we're running off League One players and free transfers. Either you have the quality and confidence to play the same formation every week, or you adapt to your situation because you don't.
