Football Focus bit on Ings is interesting. Said he was a childhood Saints fan and is still a Saints fan, just wanted to do something ‘different’. Glenn Murray saying Ings kept us up single handedly for a couple of seasons and has joined Villa to win trophies… Interesting but odd segment.
I was always under the impression he wasn't a saints fan, just grew up around here Glenn Murray knows the square root of **** all.
The more I’ve thought about it the more I think Ings did us a big favour by accepting the only offer where we got a bid we’d accept. Rather than sit out his contract and have the pick of clubs going on a free and we get **** all
This is why is boggles my mind that so many ex pros still benefit from “jobs for the boys” I could provide better insight that him on probably every club. Just not the ins and outs of what it is like to be a footballer and the same is true of thousands
Yeah but nobody would care what you (or any) non pro footballer would have to say. In my opinion experienced journalists tend to have the best insight into football as they have watched 1000s of games in an analytical way to write their piece, are usually able to get their points across well and aren’t constrained anywhere near as much by things ex pro footballers are (loyalties to clubs/managers/friends still playing)
I never claimed they would. I guess the point I was trying to make is that if even I could give better insight then surely even the average journalist would be better than Glen Murray ? Just goggling at how low the bar is for ex pros There is a snobby attitude in the game that you have to have played it to be able to speak about it People like Glen Murray and Jermaine Jenas prove how ridiculous that policy is . It is why Totally Football is so good
The snobby attitude comes from the viewers. If Dave from the pub is on Sky analysing the game and he knows everything about football, more people would still listen to Glenn Murray as he is a name.
But it extends to the likes of James Richardson who should have been MOTD2 host years ago. And to my knowledge has never appeared on Sky You are focusing on my quip about me knowing more. But loads of very knowledgeable football journalists are sidelined for complete idiots. Michael Owen on commentary and the like …
I wasn’t talking about you, just saying that as long as somebody is a “name” as an ex pro then then general masses will listen to them far more than anyone else It’s the same in cricket, every English pundit on Sky has played for (and in a lot of cases captained) England. If you haven’t you don’t get on. Name is everything in their eyes to get people to listen to you
I know it's ridiculously early but you have to fear for Norwich already. Today was a bad result for them.
