We've conced three goals here through poor defending imho, 2 from set pieces, the team needs to be better drilled on the practice pitch ..yes we are lacking quality and won't be pushing top end but for me the buck stops with the manager and his assistant, time and again we defend badly .. in League 1 you can get away with it, in the Championship they will punish you. He even had the nerve to spit his dummy out about people suggesting an older head in the centre back was bring suggested. No Grant, that's exactly what we need right now cos you aren't fkn sorting it !

Can still get 5/2 for derby to finish bottom but 10/1 for hull to finish bottom.

I’ll have a look at the highlights when I get home to see just how hard done by we were in terms of ref/lino decisions but watching it live, they were dogshit and gave us **** all.

That being said, we looked second-best all over the pitch and Sheff Utd didn’t even look like they had to get out of first gear to put three past us.

At least we scored a goal so that streak is ended. That one goal probably bought Terry a few more months…

Bruce defended at the highest level and it’s no coincidence our defence using 5-3-2, especially in that 2012-13 season, was exceptional.

We didn’t lose that because of the ref, we lost because we weren’t good enough.
We played decent enough stuff in parts, we’ve played: Bournemouth, Sheff U, Swansea and Fulham, all teams with PL money in their coffers. I’ll reserve judgement on McCann until after we’ve played the likes of Forest, Blackpool, Luton and Barnsley.

it was exceptional because we had Dawson, Chester, Davies and even though he never started him in the Prem, Maguire - now we dont have any experience whatsoever and Greaves who isn't really a header of the ball which doesn't help - unless we get a centre back who commands the box we are going nowhere

If it does, we might end up with a Turkish coach, don’t know of many successful Turkish coaches? But you never know.

We don't have a coach now so not really a gamble is it.

I agree with those who said T Smith looked lively when he came on. I’ve seen enough of Matt Smith now, he is busy but offers next to nothing in terms of meaningful threat.

And that is our squad in a nutshell. We have loads of Division Two and a half players, decent in League One but very limited in this division, especially up against Premier League standard squads like Sheff U’s. Magennis, Smallwood, Honeyman, now Moncur, all competent at this level but nothing more. It will be a long hard season where finishing 19th will be a fabulous outcome - my previous guess of 14th is out of the window, the post-promotion glow only lasted 90 minutes at Preston.

In 2012-13, it was Chester, Hobbs, Faye, Bruce jr. and McShane, but yeah, I get your point. Dawson, Maguire and Davies were great additions to an already disciplined defence. I know you aren’t a fan of Bruce, but we were pretty blessed with defenders under him.

Makes you wonder why he’s gone with Hayden and Lascelles at Newcastle.

I would expect a successful coach IN Turkey, I’m thinking outside of Turkey.
Maybe Zaki could come & make up for his abysmal display as a player for us. I don’t even know if he’s a coach.

From what I’ve heard, the Geordies think Lascelles is gash. Didn’t know he was playing Hayden at centre-half. Isn’t he a defensive midfielder by trade? He was for us.

I agree with your post Steven but Sharps shirt-pulling,pushing and blatant elbowing should have been punished and probably would've been with a decent official ?

At the moment we're playing teams who have far more than us and it shows:emoticon-0101-sadsm
