They were charging £290 a night this weekend. We really struggled to find any accommodation (and booked a few weeks ago). I had seen the critical stories in HDM, so wasn't going anywhere near. Had to settle for a grubby guest house, which had the audacity to only offers a minimum of two night stays.
Thanks for the recommendations chaps, I'll look these up for tonight. Chosen pub grub last night (it was local and we didn't have a lot of time before and after the gig) was a Weatherspoons. By jove, I impress myself with my ability to spoil a lady!
Ironically, they were playing in Scarborough last night too apparently. We were watching a gig by an up and coming Scottish band called Walt Disco. They were OK, but suprised how early the gig was.
Haven’t been out in Scarborough for years, used to live there though, hit most pubs & restaurants over the years. Chippy for me is Leeds Fisheries down Newborough, as you head down to the beach. Eastern Paradise used to be a great curry house, the last time I went. George Michael’s down York Place, if it’s still there, one of the best Greek restaurants I’ve been to. Kam Sang for Chinese, used to be good. As for the Grand Hotel, it’s a ****ing embarrassment. My Mother in law came over from America, we were looking for somewhere to stay, made the mistake of staying there. I think we paid £100 for 2 rooms, it was 3 years ago, so can’t be accurate. That was too much, should be shut down & done up properly, it won’t though. It has a Butlins feel to it, entertainment wise, the staff were good. But don’t ever think about staying there, EVER!
To be quite frank I’m absolutely appalled that I had to get half way down the second page before this legend got a mention. Even then Chazz couldn’t be arsed to call him his proper name or even spell it correctly. It’s ‘Seaside’ Danny Wilde, if you don’t mind? Superstar. Sings like Elvis. In the Nelson bar. You’d be foolish not to…….
I can't believe I didn't know this. Apparently, The Penthouse didn't announce it, as it was while they were being banned everywhere, so just had them listed as 'special guests'.
My local paper was championing Scarborough this weekend, recommended the Esplanade Hotel. The Grand didn't get a mention...
Great video just come on YouTube by North Yorkshire Wanderer about The Grand. Well worth a watch, as are his other videos.
