I’m no McCann fan and I have big reservations but I think it’d be really harsh to sack him now. The wrong of two seasons ago was corrected in my view and I’d accept 21st in the league at the end of the season. Our playing budget is small for the division and we’ve started the season with some tough games with our biggest attacking threats from last season out injured and two of our newer ones hampered by Covid In preseason or banned for three games. I’m all for criticising the manager and the team when I think it’s warranted and it’s not been an amazing start, but what should we expect?
I’d give until December max if we’re in the bottom three by then. Any longer and he’s just stealing a living as our manager.
I’ve voted out, his stubbornness to see what’s in font of him, and refusal to change plan A is the end for me. However who would replace him, another cheap “yes” man. We need nee owners to bring their own man in
It would never happen under the Allams but Chris Wilder is a man I’d trust to squeeze the best out of this squad. Surprised he’s still out of a job but he’s been linked with the Forest job if they sack Houghton.
I would say December is a good time to look at things but I think it’s points compared to teams around us I’d be looking at over positions
If we’re in the bottom three by Christmas and only one or two points off 21st, I still wouldn’t trust McCann to get us out the ****.
My issue is his lack of taking responsibility and blaming others. Sorry but the 10 minutes he claims were the difference is only part of the story. The squad have training sessions where simple defensive blunders should have been wiped out and more emphasis given to creativity and finishing.
Don’t disagree, I think he’s found out when he doesn’t have the best players but I still think he’s not had his best team on the pitch yet
That’s still no excuse imo. Klopp clawed the Scousers to a Champions League spot last season despite playing a large chunk of it without a fit senior centre-back. Injuries are always gonna be an inconvenience to teams but it’s how a manager responds that makes the difference. McCann is just an excuse-peddler who will blame his own players, injuries, suspensions, bad refs/linos before taking any responsibility himself.
Yes but where were Liverpool a couple of months before the end of the season? Didn’t Liverpool go on bad runs last year? Look I’m no McCann fan and I wouldn’t be upset to see him go, but at the same time we can’t panic at every bad run, particularly when two of our draws came against last years play off teams.
That’s fair enough but I’m not judging him purely on the 7 games we’ve played this season. It’s also based on his management last time we were in this division. If McCann was hired at the start of last season, winning promotion back to the Championship and this was his first season in this division, I’d have all the patience in the world for him. But his record in this division is piss-poor and I’m certain he’ll drag us down to League 1 again if left in charge for the entire season.
Agreed, if it was up to me he’d have been sacked in the dressing room following the 8-0, but we are where we are this season and it may not work out, but I don’t think we’ve got all the facts to judge that yet. But come back to me if we haven’t scored in the next few games and I will very quickly change my mind, patience will not last long.
For me he has earned the right to see things until mid November. At that point if things need changing then it gives enough time for new manager to come in before the Jan window. It's also fair to say there was a point last season where most where calling for his head after a poor run and we kept him and look what happened. The start of this season has also been hampered by some key Injuries and a suspension. Grant is very very very well liked by this squad and they have a great spirit running through the squad. But if this form continues when players are back and match fit then I think November is the cut off I also don't see who else would / could come in and do a better job on what we would pay
