I think it’s going to be a slow climb out of the bottom half of the table with ups and downs along the way,i.e. the usual Ipswich rollercoaster ride.

If we’re not edging,at least, towards the Playoffs at the end of the Season then Cook’s position may be up for review.

Still consoling yourselves that it's a new squad that needs time to gel and that's why you are playing catch-up? The average team in this league made somewhere between 8 and 10 new signings, who will also need to be get used to playing together and gelling with their new teammates and tactics. Most other clubs have been fine. That's how it is in this league, it has a high volume of turnover when it comes to transfers because most players are on one year contracts.

Regardless, it still comes back to the players you have signed just aren't anywhere near as good as you have been led to believe. They look bang average on paper. Your club must have some PR department :emoticon-0102-bigsm

It's interesting to see how the tone of Cook's post-match interviews are changing as the weeks and lack of wins slip by. For all the bluster about not calling the players out the reality is, that is exactly what he is doing but in a passive-aggressive way. His negative comments about the media appear more and more in his interviews. Cook needs to do something and quick because for all the patience the board appear to be showing, I don't think even in their wildest dreams they would have expected us to be in the relegation zone without a win and I don't expect them to have the patience that Evans had when it comes to showing managers the door.
I suspect Cook is quite an abrasive character in the dressing room and a bit like marmite and as much as I would like him to be a success, I don't see it happening with him in charge of us. Obviously, I hope that I am proved wrong.

This is complete nonsense. Individually there is a hell of a lot more quality than last season.

You give him the season but if we are still without a win by October....he will be gone!

Complete nonsense? Accrington Stanley were 2nd yesterday with 6 new signings starting and they brought on all 3 subs, who were also new signings. If i'm wrong then it must be becasue it's somehow different for Ipswich Town when it comes to making new signings gel together.

If there is indeed a 'hell of a lot more quality' (doubtful) then surely Cook is failing big time by being unable to make them play together? If other managers in the division have managed it with their sides, why hasn't Cook?

Might sound bizzare, but the fact that we are still losing the way we are gives me cause to remain optimistic.

As others have said we're still very much in pre season mode with a whole new everything. There is plenty of justified criticism that can be levelled at the club for that but it means we can be relatively certain the best is still ahead of us. If we had won a game or two, but still putting in performances like yesterdays then I would be more concerned

Humans are emotional beings, not machines. Football is an art, not a science.

For the good of your club, I hope your board members and coaching staff don't still follow this outdated nonsense.

The first part is irrelavant to the conversation. I agree with it. I am also unsure why you said it. It seems a lot of other managers in the division have managed their emotional beings in the squad but yours can't/hasn't so far. None of them are machines. Just better managed following on from a clear well thought-out transfer strategy.

It’s not at all nonsense. As with all art, producing fine work, skill, accomplishment and chemistry all require talent and dedication in varying measures. Some have to work hard at it and others don’t work hard at all and it comes naturally.

Perhaps they have managed things better, or perhaps their starting conditions were more favourable or they just had that little bit of luck or magic. We’ve had some fine margins in games that have gone against us and if they had gone the other way we’ve got confidence, we’ve got momentum and we’re higher in the table.

I highlighted the part which you stated that football isn't a science. You have delibrately ignored it and went on talking about something completely different!

The first paragraph addresses that, if you care to read it.

It doesn't. Science has come into football. You haven't addressed that directly.

Why do you think science isn't integral to football?

There is sports science, just as chemistry is an element of the art of painting. But sports science, technology and statistics are not a differentiator.

Certainly one way of looking at it but Yourw saying cook is crap and the players not good enough. Problem is; many of the players are from the championship (one has 100ish PL caps), many played for cook and in the same sides that he’s won promotion with with two clubs from this division before.

so that view which prevails amongst the Twitter armchair warriors just doesn’t make sense yet to me.

but we’re yet to win a game and we were a shambles yesterday so I am searching for insights beyond ‘cook out’ ‘cook is crap’ and ‘players rubbish.’

The players were not rubbish last season but as a group they were downtrodden and used to losing.

I disagree Yorkie, the squad that took us down did nothing at all to redeem themselves and looked quite comfortable to just jog along and pick up their pay packets. We were falling back into the MM ways of just trying not to lose games in a negative way and scoring the odd goal by opposition error. That was down to a combination of PL and the (lack of ) character of the players.I really don’t think we miss anyone who was subject of the big clear out.

We only had one prolific forward with his own problems. We had no right back to speak of. We did not have any width. We had midfielders who went months without being able to find a team mate. That was never because of a lack of quality individually.
