So am I right in thinking you are in favour of ‘open borders’ then Strolls ? Do you think anyone should have the right to come to this country, settle here, be welcomed with open arms and able to enjoy the facilities that this country offers ?
Nah, she’s just some out dated old dear who should be shoved into the box of ‘History’ Her son of course should be shoved into the wooden box marked ‘nonce’
Ok, thanks for that. Here's the population of the UK since we were born: If you're looking ahead at sustainability, you must accept that by taking in large numbers now to service the current population, you are simply deferring and exacerbating the problem. In 30 years time, those coming into the UK will need servicing and so you start again, with a much bigger density of population. For me, you have to calculate what is the optimum population of the UK that maintains quality of life and protects the natural world, and work within that figure.
Probably not quite 52% but I’d suggest there’s a sizeable minority who would be well up for machine gunning dinghies that get a bit close to our shores.
Possibly……almost the same amount on the 48% side who couldn’t give 2 ****s about immigrants and their conditions, as long as they have someone serving them their “soy bean caramel mocha’ on a Friday morning
Being exploited….without a shadow of a doubt. So about the question of open borders….agree or disagree ?
They seem pretty happy and willing to be exploited. As to 'open borders', this phrase tends to used as a pejorative by those who want to stop all immigration. There needs to be some level of control of course - you can't just let any Tom, Dick or Abdul walk in unchecked - but, like the USA, this country has benefitted massively from immigration over the years and I just don't understand the current levels of antipathy towards immigrants. It's not new of course (No Dogs, No Blacks, No Irish), but as I've said before, Brexit has resulted in the UK currently having too few people to service its economy and there are many potential immigrants willing to do the jobs that the indigenous population doesn't want to do. We should be welcoming people who want to come here to work (how would the NHS function without immigrants?), but perhaps instead we should stop seeking the holy grail of continuous economic growth and accept that our island is just too small to sustain our current levels of prosperity.
You could of just said no, I don’t believe in “open borders” (a slogan often used by my former friends and colleagues on the political “Anarchist” left). So what controls would you have in place ? Less than we have now ? Just about the same ? I’ve already done the bit about exploitation and free movement of Labour, and explained my reasons why this is the case….you disagreed but didn’t say exactly why.
I think we should rejoin the Single Market and return to free movement for EU workers, most of whom want to come and work here before returning home.
So you’re in favour of exploitation of all workers through low wages and conditions. Shame on you Stroller
She's similar to Mo Farah, who arrived as a very young child and grew up as a British citizen. Emma did the same and both are, quite rightly, British citizens. She is destined to be a superstar. I've always had a problem with adult sportsmen and women who grew up elsewhere, but end up representing this country.
Yes, Mo Farah is an excellent comparison. In the 1990's, Jelena Dokic moved from unstable Coatia at the age of 10 to play for Australia. Because she was older, she did vacillate between those two countries. Emma can choose, but given the singular adulation she'll get in the UK, I suspect she'll be a household name here. I hope she doesn't burn out too early, Tracy Austin like. I don't think she will. She's well advised and admirably focused and strong minded. Final is live on Amazon Prime tomorrow, I think at 9pm. Good news for Amazon here, I suspect they'll be getting some new members.
