Playing the waiting game in Spain, today.
Waiting for air con engineers to arrive to service and re-gas two air con units. Temperature due to reach 34C again this afternoon, so cooling devices needed.
They will be here “this morning” but that could be any time up until 2pm, if I am not mistaken.
Also took the plunge and ordered something from Amazon.es.
That is also due today. Neighbours tell me that they have received things here, from Amazon in the past, so hopefully it will arrive. That the urbanisation I am on was frequently referred to as “the lost city” for many years leaves me wondering.

In the US, pre 9-11, getting on a plane was like getting on a bus. You rocked up to the airport, bought your ticket (no id required), walked through to the gate with your mates there to see you off, then, when they called it, you piled on (no pre-booked seat except in 1st class) and sat where you wanted. I did it numerous times and it was a) a frigging bun-fight and b) an unbelievable security risk. No baggage check, no X-ray machines, no id check ….. I hated it. Then, straight after 9-11, they brought in all the security checks (which were welcomed, obviously). A few years later I was travelling domestically and the couple behind me were bemoaning the “good old days” before “they” (their words) “made us” jump through all these hoops so “they” can keep tabs on where everyone is ….
Yep - many Americans are as thick as pig **** ….. :emoticon-0114-dull:

“Windows on the World” restaurant was one of THE most amazing places and the one I always loved going to. I took my cousin and her husband there the weekend before September 11. I always think of the poor bastards who were working there (many of whom I would have met) who had literally no chance of getting out ….:emoticon-0106-cryin:emoticon-0106-cryin

I was reading a newspaper article this morning that in both towers, only 4 people above the impact of the planes got out.

Of those, the truly remarkable story is of one guy who saw the plane approaching, hid under his desk and was trapped on one of the floors the plane hit (obviously the planes came in at a slight angle so covered about 10 floors. His only escape route as he was on that side of the office was 'stairway A' which they now know was the only one not blocked. Also he went downwards and met everyone else going upwards as they said they can get to the top and get rescued by a helicopter. On his way down he saw a guy trapped behind a wall, got him out and carried him down with him. They both survived. When he got to the bottom (I think 80 floors down) the Fire Department told him to get a block or two away as there was still debris falling. He got to about 2 blocks away and turned around to see the tower tumble. For years he has suffered survivors guilt, but the guy he rescued has become like a brother to him. In the face of such a terrible act of humans, it is nice to hear an uplifting act.

I watched that last night. For years, I’ve avoided watching documentaries on that day, but I feel that now it’s time to get it out of my system and watch them. Some unbelievable acts of heroism and people (not always fire and rescue personnel) going back in or up to check on whether there were still people trapped in there. Even though the towers were visibly crumbling. I can’t praise all those FDNY, NYPD and EMT people enough. They knew what they were doing but didn’t hesitate. Incredible.
The things which will always remain with me include the awful stench from the smoke which hung over New Jersey for weeks, the heartbreaking pictures and messages looking for lost relatives and friends which were pasted on the fences at the stations and around Ground Zero, the empty seats on my train on the way back into Manhattan the following weeks and the warmth, friendship and love shown by all New Yorkers for months after it. The world absolutely changed that day though ….. :emoticon-0106-cryin:emoticon-0106-cryin

Not going well in the waiting game.
The air con people phoned to say they would be here 4-4.30 pm, so much for the morning, but at least they phoned.
Amazon.es has sent me an email saying that they have tried to deliver and will try again. Mmmmm I haven’t budged from the house all day. Still they have until 10pm to make good on their delivery.

    What a wasted day.

On the bright side you have wasted a day in a nice place :)

I just spent 2 days configuring a new system at work only to be told that we probably won't need it now....That is a waste of time :)

<laugh> Sorry, shouldn’t laugh, but you’re probably getting paid for it.

The air con engineer has actually arrived within the 4pm - 4.30pm time slot, which is pleasing.
He says the pressure in the units is fine and he has pumped in some gas (freon?) that cools the air.
Seems to be an improvement, although if it’s like the car air con, it will get colder after a few days usage.

Now, what to do about Amazon? Will he deliver this evening?
Haven’t had my daily beer yet.
Won’t be staying in for him tomorrow. Will write a note out and put it on the glass, porch door for him to put the packet in the porch I think.
Will have to check my Spanish on google translate.

It's a shame, they should have gone to Pizza hut to find him there to serve the papers

He may well escape any punishment for what he has done because the establishment will look after their own.....like they always do.

Too late though, the word is out there......

Had a 6.4 mile walk this morning.
Not so bad when you are within a stones throw of the sea for most of it.
I would upload a couple of photos but they are too big apparently.

Simple trick is look at the photo on your phone, then screenshot it. If you then do a quick crop on the screenshot it'll be small enough to upload.
