Yes thats pretty much the case. We offered Hume a decent contract, better than the one he's on now last year but he decided to wait and see what other offers he had.
After once again getting injured we changed our offer to a lesser financial package to cover our backs because of his injury problems and he wasnt happy about it.

I would have Hume as winger personally

It will be interesting to see how much game time Geads gets this season and if Hume comes in higher up the pitch. It's great that we have won games without relying on him as per previous seasons. I just wonder about his knee injury and having injections etc. Can't be sustainable for him.

Pleased he has signed. There is a player in there and provides good balance and options on the left when fit. Nice to have a natural left footer to come in if needed.

The whole squad is becoming full of versatile players who can do various jobs.

Hume fits into the 'profile' of young adaptable players who can play or be a useful sub, cover injuries etc, play cup games etc ...

... but if they're not first team regulars they have to accept that money is an issue.

On a less serious note, Stewart reminds me of Quinn more and more, not just his height ...

... I'd love to see if he's as good as Quinny in goal <laugh>

We might see Hume and Cirkin down that left hand side, no reason not too, Hume would need to improve on his delivery, but with the Loch Ness Drogba up front we may see a rapid improvement, lots of work for LJ mind, but the rewards could be very tasty, and add a fit McGeady to the mix and anything is possible.

Agree in that I am not clued up but surely you do not commit your whole professional career to an agent. I would have thought similar to a 3-4 yr contract and if they are not doing there job it's bye bye.

    or this one perhaps?

Neither say nothing whatsoever similar to what you're claiming.

Hopefully this is McGeady's last full season which would mean we're in the Championship ...

.. in which case we'll need Championship level players.

Hume needs to continue to improve if he'll merit a place, it's possible but some serious coaching is needed.

well, my thoughts don't really come into this but i cant say i disagree with previous posts and can see both sides (the 'get rid he is sh1te' posts get ignored like) but the lad has signed up, we will never know the full ins and outs here and he is once again a sunderland player.

let's hope the competition for places helps him to improve aspects of his game as we all agree he is not the finished article.

For fecks sake i wish i had as much time on my hands as you.
The contract offer we made to him was reduced to what it could/should have been if it wasnt for his injury problems and Denver obviously didn't agree with that....

See, I haven’t really seen many ‘he’s ****e’ posts, I’m not sure where this has come from.

I’ve seen (and I share the view) that the lad has potential but we haven’t seen it enough and the age he’s at he’s got to kick on now.

I’m comfortable that he’s staying, and hope he does find that consistency, but had he left it’s hard to argue it wouldn’t be clear what we’d lost.

Big year for the lad now, I certainly won’t hold the negotiations against him, that’s gone, I just want to see a player good enough, and growing with the club.

The quality around him has ramped up, he needs to outpace that to become first 11, if he does that we will have a hell of a player and we will all be delighted.

I think with Hume it is about coaching to get some of the one v one stuff and positional stuff sorted. I think at times he gets himself dragged to the ball. At other times he should delay the player rather than try to win the ball back. Might sound daft but he reminds me a bit of a young Micky Gray - he learned some of the off the ball stuff and became a solid player defensively who was dangerous attacking. Hopefully the coaches can do similar with Hume.

I'm happy Denver has signed for us.

Up to now he has found it easy to shine in a pretty dull squad so he has to improve to shine out with the quality we now have in the squad.
