Train : 1 hour 27 minutes - Hammersmith and City line to Paddignton, then GWR train to Reading then the 6 Emerald bus to the stadium.

Match Preview;​

I know we still have a week of international football to look forward, but in case Netherlands vs Turkey, France vs Finland and then England vs Poland doesn't get the blood pumping, thought I'd get this match day thread up nice and early so we can look forward to having a Rangers game again next Saturday.

Reading have lost 4 and won 1 this year, with their last game being a 4-0 loss to Huddersfield Town. They have scored 7 goals (John Swift is their top scorer...3 goals), which is more than anyone else outside the top 11, but they have conceded 13, which is at least 5 more than any other team in the division so far. This leaves them in 21st place, just 1 point above the relegation zone, but also 1 good win away from 13th, so it is early days.

As for us, my hope is that the international break will have been a chance to give the players a good break, and give those recovering from injury a chance to get better and back to full fitness. Sam Field is the only long-term absentee, having had knee surgery. Otherwise, the aim is surely to start where we left off having started the season with 3 wins and 2 draws, a start that sees us sit 3rd in the table.

Andre Gray has joined since our last game. He played under Warburton at Brentford, and so I'm assuming that means Warburton thinks highly of him, and that he should fit in well as a second half replacement for Austin alongside Dykes, or even to start. His goal scoring record isn't too prolific, having scored 19 in 113 games for Watford since 2017, but here's hoping he starts well and contributes a lot to the team.

I'll add team news and manager comments when they go on the official...enjoy those who'll be there (there is a separate thread about the ticket fiasco so I won't go into it here...) and as always...

Thought exactly the same. Did we lose a lot inbetween the wars?

 

We lost 9 out of 12 games between 1924 and 33, then again lost 8 out of 12 between 1947 and 1956, lost 5 in a row between 1964 and 1966, never won more than 2 in a row against them.

 

It will be a long time before we do what with us going up and them going down.

 

Hope Chair, Adel and the rest of them got home safe from Guinea.

 

What happened? Sorry, I'm out of the loop on this one.

 

Still get pangs every time I see Gorkss name, should have had several more years with us.

The Morroccan football team including Chair and Adel were in Guinea the day before their game there, had already trained, when the military coup happened. They could hear gunshots from their hotel apparently and the borders to the country were reportedly closed. Their game was cancelled. The Morroccan FA claim they negotiated travel for the team out, there's info on their website..There are clips of them in their hotel, with Adel waiting for another bus, then more dramatically, from their bus on the way to the airport when what sounds like gunshots can be heard. Sounds like something for them to tell their grandchildren one day. Guess Chair will gave a game less than planned in his legs Saturday, no pun intended, ha.

 

I think Guinea played a bit fowl...
