I had it for a year but then jacked it in. I get all the gossip on here and many good stories and interviews are kindly linked into posts by not606ers.

I watch highlights on the BBC Sport website and go to most of the games anyway.

I like to support the club in most ways, so a subscription to CAFC Player is good in that respect. But I already spend a small fortune at each home game so I do my bit in that way. Each to their own I suppose. It may be better than when I last subscribed to it?

You may get a free trial, but don't quote me on it.

    Thanks Ponders,

My sentiments exactly really, I go to every home game and spend a fair bit. I to watch highlights on both BBC and skysports. Maybe I'll take some more time to consider it :)

Yes but with CAFC Player you get to listen to Charlton Live, which in my eyes is worth the fee alone ;-)

Well im in australia, i love the Cafc player, but even if i was in the UK id have it anyway as being able to listen to the games live is brilliant.

For those that didnt know, if you have access to the cafc player you can listen ( for whatever reason) to about 80% of the other fixtures on as well, just switch between championship/league1/league2, any match if you wanted.

For a full 12 months it costs about $60 oz, bargain in my book.

As the service is all provided by the same company for every club, you can access their content too which is a nice touch. Sometimes good to hear from the other side.

Yep it is, but it's only about 30 mins long so you do not get the whole show. We can be a plus as we can ramble on, we do special podcasts too. We have a Matt Holland one coming soon as the interview was so good we wanted to put it out there.

On CAFC player after the show is broadcast, a few days later you can listen again which is a nice touch.

Anyway, in itunes search for Charlton Live to subscribe or visit www.charltonlive.co.uk to download the podcast

How do you go about approaching guests... And do you take suggestions? Gary borrowdale should surely come on and explain his incredible corner technique!

from fans i know cafc player is not very good, theyre always moaning about it saying the commentary is non existant and always has either bad reception or gets cut off during the live matches, one game this season it went for the entire second half which was a bit annoying!after hereing these reports about it decided not to get one i need proof from other fans its worth while investment to make.

personally if i was running i player i would have mark mansfield do the commentary he was superb back in the 90s.i would also show old matches of games from yesteryear get more interviews and have live matches to i player for people who cant attend every game for work reasons etc etc.

The CAFC player is still relatively new, obviously it's not going to appeal to everyone. The interesting thing for me is the BBC commentary as at the moment when we play Bournemouth for instance away there will be two radio streams, so each club will have one slightly biased towards them. As announced there are going to be cutbacks which I presume will effect this service.

As for the other services I get to see the effort put in making this content and they are constantly striving to improve it and a lot of people who assist with that content are volunteers and do it for the love.

Regarding the cut-outs. It's a problem and it bugs me like everyone else, the club report back but that's all they can do as it's a firm who provide those services. They want a service that is reliable as the fans do as it then gives the service more value and the possibility of more subscribers.

Despite attempts to contact Mark Mansfield we have been unable to. The Club has contract with BBC London to provide match commentators, so even if Mark were available I doubt the we would be able to us him, we did provide commentary for the pre-season games, the feedback we recieved was very good.

With regard to the content, there are far more interviews now going onto the Player site, in comparison with a year ago, as Glovepup said, the Charlton Live team are all volunteers, and we try and get as many interviews as possible to improve the level of content, we also encourage questions from fans when we are carrying out our interviews, although when they are arranged at short notice it can be difficult to do that. Subscibers to CAFC Player can view other league clubs services and will see that the CAFC service provides a very good variety of content.

Getting guests is a consistently difficult task, for any interviews with current players we liaise with the clubs media team, as most of us have regular jobs we can only carry these out on match days, so we are then limited to injured or suspended players, or when we were playing JPT or Carling Cup games we could have access to first team players not in that match day squad, for a league game its not really possible to get players who have just been told they are not in the squad for that day. We do take time off from work and go and meet players/coaches at the training ground, but we are limited in the amount of time we can do that. Footballers in general are a little dubious about exposing themselves to the media for fear of being misquoted or dropping themselves or team mates in to trouble, so we have had to work hard to gain the trust of the players and coaching staff, players do seem to be happy to come and talk to us, as word has got round that we are not there to stitch them up.

Former players and well known fans are a little easier, the media team have a good idea of who is at any given game and they then arrange interviews, Matt Holland was at the last home league game presenting fro Talksport so we were able to arrange to interview him, I know that for this Saturdays game we have a well known fan attending who we will interview and possibly a first team player, that is all thanks to the media team. Other former players we have built up good relationships with, Garry Nelson is always easy to get hold of, we also have a supporter who is in contact with most of our former players, and he regularly brings in some of the older players for us to talk to. We also try and get live studio guests for the Sunday show, for this we deal directly with the guest.
We meet allthe journalists that cover games and have built up good relationships with them, and we are able to get them into the studio on a Sunday night, they are usually very good as they offer an independent view of whats going on at the club. The former players that come in have been very popular, Mickey Bennett was the most recent one, and he proved to be very entertaining.
We do spend a lot of time trying to think of who else we can talk to and we are open to ideas, I think without a doubt the dream interview would be with Clive Mendonca, we will get him one day!
