Good Morning. It's Monday 6th September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Mixed reviews for Bamford on his England debut Patrick Bamford finally made his full England debut, against European minnows Andorra at Wembley yesterday afternoon. Donning the famous No 9 shirt usually reserved for Harry Kane, the birthday boy was given an hour to show Gareth Southgate his worth. Bamford made his International debut for the Republic of Ireland at U18 level, but switched alienage after one game. He went on to represent England at U18, U19 and U21 level winning seven caps, and netting once. Seven years later, he deservedly got his chance under Gareth Southgate. Unfortunately, the Leeds ace received mixed reviews. Chief Sports Presenter for ITV Mark Pougatch remarked “He’s making the runs but he’s not necessarily getting the ball. I’m saying he is shy but this is no occasion to be shy, is it". Pundits Ian Wright and Roy Keane leapt to the striker's defence blaming poor distribution to be the problem. Social media lit up after the game, with many fans suggesting Bamford was out of his depth, though Leeds fans were quick to defend him. please log in to view this image Dan James will be crucial for Leeds - Hay Leeds journalist Phil Hay believes 25 m new signing Dan James will be crucial for Leeds if they are to produce another captivating performance on the field this season. The Whites have got off to a slow start, getting hammered on the opening game of the season, followed by two score draws. Having dissected the Burnley game, the former Chief Football Writer for the YEP is of the opinion that a lack of width led the Leeds downfall last month. According to Hay : "Beyond the basic strategy of trying to deny Leeds possession, one way to negate them is to contain them on the flanks. It was part of the story at Burnley on Sunday, where Patrick Bamford’s late goal rescued a point against hosts who had lost their first two league matches. The importance placed on effective width is why so much money was thrown at Manchester United’s Dan James two days later". please log in to view this image Cresswell to go out on loan in January Former Leeds and England defender Danny Mills has tipped Charlie Cresswell to exit the club in January on loan in pursuit of first team football. Having just signed a new four-year deal at Elland Road, the 19yo is highly regarded by the coaches at Leeds but needs more than developmental football if he is to progress to the next level. According to Mills: “I think it would be difficult. “He’s a good young player but to break into the Premier League as a centre-half when you’re that young is very, very difficult. “It’s the ultimate position of trust so as a young player that’s very difficult. “Unfortunately, the window’s closed for loan deals because it used to be open for a few weeks after the window closes. “That opportunity has disappeared which is a shame because I think that would have been ideal for him to go out and learn real football, football that matters. The Under-23s is still development football. “He might have to be patient this season and prove himself with the Under-23s then who knows? If he’s doing well and he’s not going to get in team during January then they might let him go out on loan.” Let's hope a loan move is not the kiss of death for Cresswell. Recently, we have seen a lot of bright talent temporarily fly the coop, only for performance levels to crash resulting in them being labelled 'surplus to requirements. please log in to view this image
Morning all, That was the most annoyed I've been watching an England game in a long time. Firstly there was absolutely zero need to play so negative. I defended those tactics in the euros but against the likes of Andorra these is absolutely no need. What is the point of playing four or five passes across our back line trying to draw them out and create space when it is obvious they had no intention of actually trying to get out of their half. Second you have to feel for Bamford on his debut. He did exactly what he was asked to do and get into the right positions. He did this and I lost count of the amount of times he called for the ball and it wasn't forthcoming. The problem with playing a "B" side as we did yesterday is everyone is trying to make their mark. So instead of the likes of James, Henderson, TAA & Trippier putting the ball in for him they were taking stupid shots on themselves. Or when wide opting to cut it back instead of whipping it in. When Southgate decides to bring on the creative spark of Mount and Grealish he takes Bamford off??? I hope he was told beforehand that he would work hard for an hour tiring out a weak side so Kane could come on and stat pad his england history.
ITV have been heavily criticised by Ally McCoist for zooming in on Bamford on the bench when England scored their 3rd or fourth!
it's hard to be wound up by the Taff when I agree with him. Morning 2p, are you looking forward to the Liverpool match.
Happy Bammers got his cap but let's face it Southgate has his favourites. Couldn't agree more with Hemase on the England B team they all wanted to look good and not lose the ball and played everything simple. Bammers done all was asked but simply didn't get the ball enough. Would of been great to see him notch a goal on his Birthday but was not to be. Hope he gets a few more caps and can bag a goal or two but we all know he's never going to start in this team when Kane is around. Not saying Bammers deserves to be in front of him as he doesn't. but, he will always be a player on the brink of squads rather than a firm fixture. As on Phil Hay and James again I agree fast players scare the shyte out of teams. As on Danny Mills well its probably best he keeps his comments to himself as these punters seem to know everything about what's going on at the club when basically they know jack all.
I found a simple solution to that by stopping watching England games years ago....they're boring as **** - especially with that negative twat in charge. Didn't need to watch it to know Bamford wouldn't be played to his strengths - Southgate doesn't have a clue. Fortunately Bamford is intelligent enough to know that in Bielsa he has a coach who knows what he's doing and he'll be utilised in a system at Leeds in which he'll shine, and his confidence won't be affected.
Even with the Bamford debut I couldn’t bring myself to watch the game. The most exciting thing about football is to watch a contest that might have an unexpected outcome. This was always going to be anything but that.
Afternoon all I too would only be repeating what Hemase said, England B had too many playing as individuals with a “look at me” attitude. Bamford has his England cap, he won’t get too many more, there is a host of talent ahead of him in that queue but I don’t care he can keep himself fresh for Leeds.
My thoughts exactly. Ideal opportunity to bombard the oppo's goal with crosses and what did they do....fart around playing endless sideways balls. Totally unnecessary against a team like Andorra and I fear it has damaged Bamford's chances of getting in the team.
Im hoping Southgate has enough about him to realise he was doing his part correctly and there were others letting him down.
Intelligent enough to get us to a semi and a final in the last two tournaments. I admit that there are things I would do differently in his position but the above means he gets the benefit of the doubt and my support at this time.
Just wondered that’s all be interesting if he keeps Bamford in the squad Personally I didn’t think he did that bad but maybe I’m biased
He made the runs but didn't get the service. The thing is he doesn't have the luxury like he does when playing for the Whites. He may not score in a few games, but he knows the next match will come up quickly. He doesn't have that with England because the games don't come up as quickly. If he had scored on his debut any pressure would have dissapeared.
Southgate is a dumb FA yes man, he blew it in the semi final by trying to get a political headline with the penalty takers and it backfired to my great satisfaction, keep it up ya big nosed ****
