Arsenal face a fight to keep captain Robin van Persie as Real Madrid prepare to prise away the Dutch striker with a £30million mega-offer in January.
Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is ready to tempt Arsene Wenger with a huge bid when the transfer window reopens for business in the New Year despite Van Persie just six months away from being a free agent.
The Gunners are desperate for the in-form frontman to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

But the 28-year-old is stalling on their advances and is understood to be in no rush to sign a new deal until the end of the season when he can review the club's ambition.
Wenger has already lost the services of two of his key players so far this year with former skipper Cesc Fabregas and playmaker Samir Nasri quitting the club over the summer.

Arsenal were resigned to selling Nasri since he had one year left to run on his contract or risk missing out on a huge pay cheque from Manchester City - a situation they could find themselves in again with Van Persie.
While the Dutch international, who has scored 45 goals in his last 67 Barclays Premier League outings, is remaining tight-lipped over his future Madrid are closely monitoring his situation, according to The Mirror.

Mourinho, whose Madrid side crushed Lyon 4-0 at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night, wants to bolster his attacking options to maintain pressure on rivals Barcelona and wants to recruit an out-and-out goalscorer like Van Persie rather than rely on goals from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Arsenal are 12 points off the top of the table in 10th place behind newly-promoted Norwich and just one point ahead of Queens Park Rangers following an awful start to the season.

Van Persie inspired them to what was only their third win of the term so far against Sunderland last week in a performance that would have undoubtedly made Mourinho take notice.
The Dutchman leads Arsenal tonight in France with Wenger's men facing a tough Champions League test against Didier Deschamps' Marseille

Firstly i can see they must have to hit a quota with regards to how many words they must use. Hope this does not happen as its a great sum of money and gladiz and wenger will prob accept. I hope RVP signs a new contract.

Not so long ago Wenger was saying that we would no longer be considered a top club if we sold Fab & Nasri, sadly we were unable to prevent that.
We need to make a stand here and show the fans, current players and prospective signings that we are still a big club who want to win things.

RvP must not be sold unless there is absolutely no chance of him signing a new contract, every effort should be made and we should be offer him top Dollar, he is our captain and most outstanding player.

We cannot continue to bleed talent like him, we simple cannot find a better replacement.

    He's going nowhere.
Soon enough TV and Jack will be fit and we'll look like a decent side again and all the gloom will be lifted...

  7. Too true and even if we did find another similar to him, neither the manager or anyone on the board will sanction the salary.

haha wowza have they made some errors int his stupid story!

    1) he has 18 months left!
    2) they have higuain and benzema and ronaldo already......

    3) 'wants to recruit an out-and-out goalscorer like Van Persie rather than rely on goals from Cristiano Ronaldo' - refer to the 2nd point - idiots! I can only assume a female wrote this article......(oop andy grey/richard keys moment)

Yes agreed, it was a rather poorly written article. Although Marureen likes RVP, do they need him when they have Higuain, Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema to pick from? Unless they are thinking of playing a 4-2-4 formation, i can't see the point of buying RVP for £30m. Unless of course this involves some sort of swap deal?

This could quite possibly be RVP's agent spreading rumours to target a better deal or club?

Hmmm a week after RVP himself reiterated he was comitted to Arsenal? Not sure the agent would have a different agenda to the player... just saying.

Not if they are pushing for more wages. ALOT of agents do this nowadays, Rooney is a classic example and we know how committed he is to Man U!

Only thing that's surprised me about Madrid is that they've not gone 'all in' for Tevez.
I can only assume Mourinho doesn't fancy the challenge of the ego/character because whilst I like Higuin and Benzema, I think with Ronaldo supplying, Tevez would be difficult to stop.

But RVP is not going to Spain of that I'm sure...

One thing is for sure, Maureen is a great man manager, up there with the likes of Fergy. Despite the falling out he had with Ronaldo, he was still able to control him when he came over to Real. As for Tevez, im sure he'll be able to control him and his ego. Anyways he wouldn't even be the best player they have! Ronaldo and Kaka are above him, with a few others on his level. The problem with Tevez is more to do with living in Manchester and playing for City. Real Madrid would be a dream come true for him.

This baseless speculation does not deserve a whole article on it.
