I love it on here It’s a little haven I can goto and have a chat with like minded people and people of complete opposing views but still have the same love for the club that I have It is great
I am hoping our owners and gaffa have a plan for this Defo not saying I am right in that - just hoping
I've called this making do for quite some time. Probably 5 years now. We make do until we have to do something. We might bugger up the next decisions in the back room staff when edwards goes, we might not. Who knows. we certainly don't want him to go as we want to "make do" keep on doing it til we have no other choice is the mantra. We are delight klopp is there but theres no forethought to the future. You can see it throughout the coaching structures from first team all the way to kids. we will grab someone somewhere when the incumbant moves. the strength of our former glories was having 2 or 3 possible to fight for a senior players slot or to complete with each other. We would bring in a player like rush be ready when the time comes. Right now We have a very decent position in the first team squad mostly. We could well have the basis of a team in 5 years in the following but there will be gaps Allisson/kelleher Trent Gomez Konate Tsimikas Elliott Fabinho (just about)Jones X Jota X Maybe the kids we scoop up will be good enough, maybe they won't. Pitaluga, bradley, beck, clarkson, Gordan, musialowski, cannonier, clarke. who knows. Its not that bad when you lay it out there. Buy another jota type player find another star in the making who cheslea discard lol. We will keep on making do by bringing in peoepl who might make it ans see what happens. We are never making a dynasty. It won't happen. It can't happen for atletico in spain, can't happen for Monaco, lille, lyon in france, can't happen for anyone in italy either., no chance for dortmund. but they can all win things. Its not that bad a deal for a club outside the oil dopers. If cheslea and city didn't exist man utd would be dominant due to their money. thats the reality. FSG aimed to get as close to their revenue as possible. 62k stadium helps, world wide commercial focus helps. winning on the pitch helps. playing less wages right at the top helps. Our revenues ought to be about 50mil less that utds or so and wages ought to be less as well.
could be neco might surprise you this season (i doubt it) but could be a 4 week intense training camp taught him how to work the system. (i still can't see more than head down runner with not much defensive sense but have to play devils advocate)
It's good to challenge now without injuries but not if we lose Salah.Where are the goals going to come from ? certainly not from Origi and not from the midfield as far as I can see !
Maybe Edwards is leaving because of a disagreement over transfers and policy. Just a thought. People on here will know better than I do but his leaving is unexpected is it not?
Jota will throw in a few - he's on almost one in two for us without playing the 90 in a lot of games. But yes, we'd miss Mo - Mané has been off the pace for a while now and Bobby was never prolific.
You have been very good in defining the problem but I have yet to see a name or a suggested solution to your problem definition. Let us take last season we lost 3 centre backs. It is very clear we had earmarked Konate as the 4th centre back option but if my memory serves me right, he was still recovering from an injury. You cannot sign 2 new CBs and not have a solution to what you would do once the injured lot come back. City lost Laporte and lost their marbles, United lost Maguire at the end of the season and had a drop of form. No team losses three CBs and challenges for the title hence why finishing 3rd was impressive with regards to the circumstances. At the turn of the year we were top of the league and were the best team until what unravelled in the next two months happened. In fact, it was only until Matip did his ankle late on in the Jan window were we forced to go for Kabak an Davies. The reality is there was no mid season transfer solution for Liverpool and it was an inhouse solution of Nat Philips and Rhys Williams that got us over the line. Trent did get injured and we had Milner. Neco Williams deputize for him adequately. Can we do better than Neco, yes however not many players will sit there thinking they can kick Trent out of that position. What you are describing is what looks logical to you as a fan. I am looking at it from Klopps perpsective where he believes he can coach players to be better. It is why we hired him as he has no issue with our business model. How Trent plays is unique but I even think Ox can cover for a few games if need be. We have two options in most of the positions. What is clear though, is you do not rate the qualty of these second unit players and that is where I guess the missmatch of our opinions are.
Well normally i agree with the FSG strategy of the club being self sufficient but loads of us called the absence of a 4th CB at the end of last seasons summer window as a potential disaster and i worry that the lack of an AM / forward will cost us this year . The lack of a £20m spend (for example ) may cost us far more in the long run . I'm not saying the signing would have necessarily worked as we have for every Salah or VVD a Keita or AOC but at least fresh blood would be available . On a side note as i said prior to it being signed i have no idea why Henderson got a 2 year extension .
Salah is definitely top tier. You cannot replace his goals. However, it always interests me how other team members always step up when their star man goes. People tend to take uo more responsibility when it eventually happens as previously they are forced to defer to the primary goal scorer. Spurs when Kane gets injured Son turns into a beast. Infact when Coutinho left, we became more balanced and even scored more.
Who knows. The word from the club is he has been with us for ten years and he wants a break followed by a new challenge. Everyone moves on sooner or later I guess, but I did wonder if he had been poached by another club. Julian Ward is expected to take his place.
There is a much bigger team in the research department who do the analytics and modelling that Edwards uses in conjuction with the scouting team and coaches. So it will just be a case of evolution so I do not see a big issue here. The next guy may come and even make you forget Edwards like Suarez when Torres left
This is the thing - I’m not the head scout of LFC. I’m not paid the mega bucks to literally scout players all day, all year. But you would think the guys that are are drafting that shortlist and helping us go out and get them to ultimately improve the team. We had 3 senior centre backs going into last season - regardless of injuries, we needed one more. It’s a simple as that. You keep saying that players don’t want to join and play second fiddle. We literally bought the likes of kostas and Jota to come in and challenge the first team. Robbo signed but he didn’t come into the teams straight away, nor did fabinho.
I agree. Edwards helped set up the entire footballing operation and now will be the test to see if it works. In theory, the process should work in such a way that we’re no longer reliant on a few key individuals. We should be able to keep functioning the way we have without a blip.
Bottom line is Klopp won't buy a player just for the sake of it. We have an excellent scouting team and bar one or two picks that haven't lived up to expectations, they're doing a great job. The loan window is open for another few weeks so we may do what we did with Kabak, go for a good back up forward with options to buy or whatever. Who knows, this may be the season where Origi and Minamino shine.
I actually agree with this. The back 5 is hopefully basically sorted for a good long while now. The issues, as we've said and I think we're all agreed, are in midfield and in particular replacing the front three. As also said before, if Keita, Ox and Minamino step up to the players, then again the situation looks much better. But we have to face the fact that while our recruitment has been good, it hasn't been perfect. But I won't have a meltdown that we only bought Konate this summer
You do make some good points that I cannot disagree with. My conclusion would be we made a calculated risk last season and it failed. We have made a similar calculation and are happy to go along with the squad as is. A team that decided Robbo would become class as well as most of the squad probably know or are seeing something that we do not. Let us hope major injuries do not derail our season and we get to enjoy some good football.
