On the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans, the city looks set to be hit by an even stronger hurricane.

I'd use the chemical method as I think that it would almost certainly regrow if you just cut it off and left it.
Cut it down close to the ground and drill downwards into the stump a number of times with as large a drill you can get into your hand drill.
Fill the holes with a recommended stump killer or a weed killer that contains glyphosate. Do this as soon as you have cut the trunk off so have the stuff ready to use straight away. Try not to spill any onto the surrounding soil. Caution: Make sure you have rubber gloves on and possibly goggles too. Wash anything that has come into contact with the chemicals thoroughly including yourself.
Cover the stump with a black bucket or black plastic bag. This not only keeps the rain off but reduced light helps with the killing process. You will also be able to leave it to die when you come back to the uk.
I dislike using chemicals in the garden but as you cant dig the stump out you have little choice imo.

If you want I could ask my daughter to look after it…all plants die within a month of her care.

A man was feeling frisky and decided to wine and dine his wife in his attempts to get his leg over. After they had eaten and finished off the second bottle of wine, he quickly cleared away the dishes, before taking his wife by the hand and leading her to the bedroom.
They slipped between the sheets and he started to get it on with his wife when she whispered in his ear “Do that thing that makes me really happy”.
And with that he jumped out of bed, ran to the kitchen and stacked the dishwasher PROPERLY.

Anyone watch Vigil last night...enjoyable and tense (if you accept the basic premise). I'm sure people familiar with the Navy and submarines can shoot holes in it because you can't make a drama without bending facts. I used to work in medical research and found most lab scenes excruciating. My friend's son worked for decades on nuclear subs....would love to get his opinion, but he rarely talks (apparently being quiet and keeping yourself to yourself is the best thing to be in a sub).....so my constant chatter and claustrophobia would have ruled that out as a career. <laugh>

Yes I liked it, I'm a big fan of both Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie, and there are some other great actors in there too. Very well done I thought, and I'm hooked, a bit like the trawler at the beginning!

Reminded me of that trawler sunk off Scotland (reportedly by a sub) and that tragic shooting on the sub in Southampton harbour. Shows strange things do happen.

I’m not one of those people who think the public should know everything. Keep me safe and you can have all the secrets you want.

Back in the days of tanners and bobs,
when Mothers had patience and Fathers had jobs.
When football team families wore hand me down shoes,
and TV gave only two channels to chose.

Back in the days of three penny bits,
when schools employed nurses to search for your nits.
When snowballs were harmless; ice slides were permitted
and all of your jumpers were warm and hand knitted.

Back in the days of hot ginger beers,
when children remained so for more than six years.
When children respected what older folks said,
and pot was a thing you kept under your bed.

Back in the days of Listen with Mother,
when neighbours were friendly and talked to each other.
When cars were so rare you could play in the street.
and when Doctors made house calls; Police walked the beat.

Back in the days of Milligan's Goons,
when butter was butter and songs all had tunes.
It was dumplings for dinner and trifle for tea,
and your annual break was a day by the sea.

Back in the days of Dixon's Dock Green,
Crackerjack pens and Lyons ice cream.
When children could freely wear National Health glasses,
and teachers all stood at the FRONT of their classes

Back in the days of rocking and reeling,
when mobiles were things that you hung from the ceiling.
When woodwork and pottery got taught in schools,
and everyone dreamed of a win on the pools.

Back in the days when I was a lad,
I can't help but smile for the fun that I had.
Hopscotch and roller skates; snowballs to lob.
Back in the days of tanners and bobs.
