It’s going to be down to what his opinion of who has all the best players post 2024 World Cup notice how he didn’t say “Spain” which is what really makes sense if he senses he has no chance of winning anything with Spain he will delay managing them until they get better players Remember he has only ever managed with access to the best players and / or most resources For him to get the credit he seems to somehow have he would have needed to take Dortmund to the title in Germany . Not the club that is exponentially richer than all the other clubs and can easily take players off of their rivals He would have taken over Manchester United and embraced the challenge of following Ferguson . Instead he chose close to infinite resources. Or Liverpool / Arsenal and look to rebuild their 80s or 90s glory days He did none of those things. He chose the easiest option every single time and his next move will be no different
Not convinced he'll be a great international manager tbh. Can't spend a billion on your team and it'll be harder to implement his style with much less time with players.
Just thinking without googling. What club managers have come on to be very successful international managers? There must be a few, but I agree with Libby on this.
How about refining this to “very successful” club managers. I don’t know enough about Sir Alf’s club career to know if it is true for him But most international managers were club managers at some point. But the top club managers in recent times have not gone the international route. At least those from the premier league
https://www.football365.com/news/man-utd-way-down-ranking-of-premier-league-double-pivots What do we think about being 14th on this list ? Interestingly all 6 clubs below us are the 6 with greater relegation odds Are there any that we should be above? I am baffled at if was are 14 and Villa 7 then why did they want JWP to take over from McGinn? Is Luiz that much better than Romeu I find this site often seems to forget us or seem to really want to. Hardly ever in winners and losers regardless of the result. In the recent piece about “one transfer per club” for the rest of the window it talked about a central defender and Phillips despite it being released on something like Monday where 5 minutes of research would reveal that Lyanco was pretty much a done deal But you can tell by the headline what the site is mainly focused on. Like all football sites I guess
Joachim Löw managed about 25 different unfashionable teams before becoming Germany's manager for 15 years. Vicente del Bosque managed Real Madrid and Besitkas before winning all the titles with Spain. Aime Jacquet managed for 15 years in France before taking the French national team to a World Cup win. Think it's more common than uncommon really.
Unai Emery would be a good international manager I feel, he's certainly a international club cup specialist. The longer time goes on, it's apparent Pepe is a league title specialist relative to international cup comps.
Yes because vastly superior resources really tell over the course of a season but in knockout competition don’t count for as much. Otherwise PSG would have done far better in the champions league by now
Went to my first Farnborough game in years today. Absolutely tore apart Hendon, even before the red card they were way on top. It finished only 3-0 but that doesn't show how dominant a performance it was. Also, didn't realise that ex Pompey player Ricky Holmes plays for the mighty Farnborough, that's awesome.
Real Madrid against Real Betis tonight. Leading the line for Betis tonight is ex-Saint Juanmi Supported by one time Liverpool target Nabil Fekir. I feel sure he was really close to joining them but for a knee issue. Funny how things can quickly take a turn ...
I expect Liverpool realised they had enough cheating Fekirs in their team without needing another one.
Here are the highlights of Sholing's wins in Devon on Saturday and Monday in front of a bumper crowd of 340 at home against Winchester City to continue their fine unbeaten start to the season. Watch out for a cracking 30 yard goal into the top corner from Brad Targett....
So Grealish moves and suddenly starts for England. It would be shocking if it wasn’t so predictable Should remind Villa where they stand like we always are
