Well, I have to say, this match thread composing is a bit of a doddle. Three match unbeaten run. Not bad for someone who expected to be on point for just one match. Just need my first league win. A week off before the next one, so I won’t be rushing it, but hopefully I will still be doing them when my 6 weeks holiday ends, in October. First half I thought we were outstanding, with the exception of opening them up regularly. Romeu was brilliant at hoovering up the ball for all his minutes on the pitch, but he has become a bit of a liability with the ball at his feet, losing possession a little too easily. He has been subbed off twice now, I think, so maybe he still isn’t as fit as he once was before the fractured ankle? Nothing for Adams or Armstrong to get on the end of, inside the box (until the end) and most of our crossing was very poor, especially at the end when we were letting them off the hook having pushed them back at 1-1. If I remember correctly, their second came as a result of a breakaway following a crap cross. Salisu just grew and grew into the game and is, IMO, going to be a far better CB than Vestergaard is, but he does have an issue with passing, as in he doesn’t have the vision of Vestergaard when playing the ball out, always giving it to someone else.
Understandable, as he's been our primary source of attacking impetus. But yeah, I'd definitely consider bringing him off after 65-70, given that we have good options at FB.
I think we win this game if Stuart Armstrong is fit . But maybe that is too bold a claim. All our other 10s are much of a muchness
I think Lyanco will replace him medium term but without Vestergaard it seems we want to play a centre back who has a good long range pass.
Just got back in from the match. Thought we should be 2 or 3 up at half time. The longer the game went on, the more I expected a breakaway goal from St Max. Newcastle had two chances- two goals. Left at 90minutes to get the bus, losing 2-1. Arrived at bus stop to be told it was 2-2. Totally unexpected result. The moron who threw the glass bottle onto the seats below should be banned for along time.
Good run by Ely to finish off a good cross from redmond but disappointed with Ely lack of crosses or trying to take on players. If Armstrong is injured i would keep him in the team but tino does a great run then runs out of steam which is where ely should be taking over and getting in the cross.
I didn’t see the United match but we dominated the entire first half and were also largely on top after they scored their first I gather United only dominated the first 20 minutes ?
Nice to see credit going to Redmond and Ely. All we need now is for Walcott to have a scorcher of a game next week and we'll be happy with pretty much every member of the first team squad... Note: Romeu always starts the season a bit slow but just gets better and better as the year goes on.
Seen a lot of Salisu praise from Newcastle fans, can imagine his talent coming across even more when your side is trying to get past him. He’s looking like a brilliant player there, would love to see him establish a solid partnership with one of our other CBs. We’ve finally got our pacy CB.
Actually Tom, can you say there is no chance of him ever coming good again like it is fact? I think we'll have a world beater on our hands again after that
6th out of seven on MoTD, makes a change from last. Watching the game on Sky and the picture quality is awful, a shadow across the pitch, you can barely see the players!
