Charlie Watts RIP

One of the very best. And a career that spanned 60 years.

Who'd have thought he'd be the first to go (Brian Jones aside) given the amount of drugs the others had consumed.

Anyway, good excuse to post my fave Stones song:

 

Certainly was one of the greatest sticks men out there.

Love the off kilter beat that he lays down on this Stones classic...

Although this hasn't got Charlie Watts on drums, it's just a great reason to post some deep blues n stones

Remember seeing Mick Jagger strutting across that huge stage, climbing the towers at each end and singing all the while doing it.

Huge energy.

 

Big fan of the Stones ... High Tide And Green Grass was one of my fave albums whilst I was at Uni ... RIP Charlie

 

Overrated band

 

Not as good as Hanson

 

Saw him in the Chelsea Arts Club over summer and he joked with us where the party was when the club closed.

Nice down to earth chap

 

I know very little about the Rolling Stones and what I have listened to has never inspired me.

Anyway, I said the same about the Beatles, and slating popular bands is always frowned upon, so i'll just leave the and move on.

 

Does this mean Mick's next? Cos Keith is definitely immortal, and Ronnie Wood looks like he died 50 years ago but is somehow still breathing...

Never rated the Stones, but he was a great drummer. Very jazz influenced.

Anyone who grew up in the Madchester era will still be in awe of Sympathy for the Devil from the Isadora's days.

So, that'll be just me then!

Anyway, RIP Mr Watts, top drummer and artist. Never been a big 'fan' of the Stones but definitely appreciate their work.

 

Ive never liked the Beatles. I can appreciate that they made iconic pop songs, but it just ain’t my cup of tea.

The stones however, made iconic rock and blues songs which were cutting edge when they were released and have stood the test of time. Proper classics. As a band, their output has been phenomenal, something like 30 studio albums.

appreciate that it’s all down to personal taste of course. But being a guitar man, I would have thought you’d been into some of those more bluesy licks from the stones ?

 

I feel exactly the same about the Beatles, I appreciate they are legends but it aint my thing.
If I have to choose who to listen to between the Stones and the Beatles, its the Stones every time.

 

When people say things like "I never really rated The Stones", (or The Beatles for that matter), what I hear is, you never ****ing listened to them. Because if you did, you'd know. Same with Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chuck Berry. It's not a matter of taste, it's a matter of fact; these guys changed the ****ing world. Forever.

 

Suppose there is a section of their music I've never had the time to get into nor search out, path untrodden. Mick Jagger I just find irritating. Charlie Watts, I know nothing about drums so can't comment.

If I was looking at stuff I search out it's Dave Gilmour, Don Felder, BB King and to a lesser degree Jeff Lynne. For some light hearted stuff, I'll throw myself in some Bob Marley and Ennio Morricone.

If I was coming from a listening perspective it would be, Queen, George Michael (Faith) through to Elvis Costello, but rarely if ever attempt to play their stuff.

Don't know where that makes me at, confused I suppose lol.

Sadly the Beatles and Stones have never influenced my life, but for many generations I know they have.
