The Premier League says its clubs have "reluctantly but unanimously" decided not to release players for matches in red-list countries during September's international break.

Under current UK government rules, players would be forced to miss several games because of the 10-day isolation period required on return to the UK.

The Premier League said "extensive talks" had taken place with the Football Association and government "to find a solution" but that "no exemption had been granted".

It added that it "strongly supported" the move made by top-flight sides, which "will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 clubs who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries".

"Premier League clubs have always supported their players' desires to represent their countries - this is a matter of pride for all concerned," said Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.

"However, clubs have reluctantly but rightly come to the conclusion that it would be entirely unreasonable to release players under these new circumstances.

"Quarantine requirements mean that players' welfare and fitness will be significantly impacted. We understand the challenges that exist in the international match calendar and remain open to workable solutions."

The decision, the Premier League said, "follows Fifa's current position not to extend its temporary release exception for players required to quarantine on their return from international duty".

Fifa also recently extended the September and October international windows by two days in South America to enable countries to catch up on World Cup qualifiers that were postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

World football's governing body said the two-day extension ensured "sufficient rest and preparation time between matches".

It means matches can now be played on Thursday, 9 September and Thursday, 14 October, with players involved being released for 11 days.

What’s the situation if I was to book an holiday to Spain in a few days? I’m far too lazy to read all the different bollocks
So I’m asking the ITK on here

    tests before?
    Tests while there?
    After?

If double jabbed, test before you return costs 20€
Then test within 2 days of returning.

That's IF they don't drop Spain into red on Weds/Thursday if they do you're ****ed and will have to quarantine on arrival in the UK at gov Hotels which can cost around a grand

That’s if he’s going on his own.

A couple with kids for example have to pay another £1430 for each second adult (or child over 11) , then £325 each for younger kids

It's ridiculous. I'm stranded abroad until Red becomes Green, being double vaxxed makes no difference.

Doing it in a few days might be challenging (not sure though) if Spain need you to do anything for them to let you in? (On top of anything you already need to do for previous warrants and unpaid bills)
To get back into Blighty you need (assuming you’re double jabbed) a private test 3 days before you travel back (negative obviously otherwise presumably you have to pay extortionate hotel rates to stay there) and then another 2 days after getting back.

Problem is what happens if it’s suddenly moves from Amber to Red while you’re there…

The Spammy 'Ard Inquisition membership numbers have been soaring recently. They're anticipating lots of fun with unsuspecting holiday seekers. That or another "creeping tax grab" on return to 'ome.

Not sure about how, where and which test you're supposed to get/use when you return from holiday, can you take one of those freebie lateral flow test kits out with you and use that before your return? I think the day 2 test after return has to be done by a private lab ( take plenty of lubricant with you ) and not by the NHS free test sites.

No you have to get private ones for the 3 day before you come back one, and the 2 day after one
The prices range from £20 to £400 (no I don’t know why either) but some are self done and some are administered etc.
Govt website has a list you can search by region

Bloody Chazz made me interested in travel rules and I spotted something which as it stands would **** my next snowboarding trip up!
Austria only allowing people in who are double jabbed (fine) and have had the second one not more than 270 days before the trip. (Not fine as I had my second one in April and don’t go until March!)
I assume it will change before then, but even so…

I'd love nothing more than a jaunt down to Lanzarote sometime over the next couple of months but I decided some time ago that the topsy turvy nature of this whole business makes the whole process too unreliable?

I don't think I could handle the disappointment of cancellation,or if it went ahead, the goalposts moving whilst abroad and the hassles that brings...

I don’t go until March 22 and booked it in Jan this year so it seemed a gamble worth taking then (and actually I still think it is as I’ll just get it refunded again if needed, and it’s a long way yet)

Same I think (double jabbed or under 18s) but worse case they’d only need them day 8 as well after return
Your gamble is whether it goes to Red in which case it’ll cost you thousands, or whether one of you gets tested positive there…in which case I tell cost you thousands.
