Does this draw mean I am doing the Newport game too, or is the cup being run as a separate thing? @ChilcoSaint
There has been a surge on the Island...presumably due to tourists and Cowes week. We were always one of the lowest infection regions when ferries didn’t run, but now one of the worst. Still you can’t lockdown forever.
Fran I read a good piece on line yesterday about the situation in New Zealand where there was one case and the islands have been put on lockdown. the argument was that isolation cannot be an effective strategy in the long term. I would find it annoying if tourists were too casual regarding spreading the infection where i live and have some sympathy. At the moment, I very much see the problems being created by people who have not taken up the vaccine albeit this is not true in all cases. There was an interview on the radio in April which suggested that a small proportion of selfish people not taking the jab would cause the virus to continue to proliferate. 60% of people in hospital with the infection have not been vaccinated. As long as there are idiots behaving irrationally, I think that the case with isolation will always be on the table. I wojld like to see more "vaccine passports" issued or at least some form of insentive to ensure that people take up the vaccine. A small percentage of people will ruins things for everyone else if this is not the case.
That small, or not so small percentage in places, of people not vaccinating, are also amongst those that disregard the other regulations or recommendations to prevent the spread and decrease the likelihood of dangerous variants appearing. I've said before an effective test, trace and isolate program should have been a priority from day one, that's an international shortcoming by the way. Vaccine passports and testing are widely used in the EU and elsewhere, these are the Dutch/EU regulations, the UK is on the high risk list. Travel and entry to event restrictions will convince some but there will be covidiot conspiraloons to be avoided. https://www.government.nl/topics/co...-abroad/requirements-for-proof-of-vaccination https://www.government.nl/topics/co...om-abroad/checklist-entry/from-outside-the-eu I'm just off to a shopping mall, it's early and quiet, easy to keep distanced, I'll be wearing a mask and ordering for pick up rather than browsing. We've massively increased our online shopping for home delivery or pickup from a delivery centre they've become our preferred methods.
Sadly, in my opinion, we’re going to be put at a huge disadvantage regarding travelling by the appalling actions of this poxy government in not getting an effective Track and Trace system up and running promptly and the actions of idiots who refuse to get vaccinated and will continue to allow the virus to mutate instead of dying out. All my travel plans have now been shelved and I firmly believe that it’s likely to be at least another year or two before I can look to travel again. It’s very annoying and, whilst I know it pales into insignificance against the troubles others are experiencing, it’s a huge issue for me as who knows if I’ll even be fit enough to travel in a few years? The Spanish flu took over 10 years to burn itself out and, whilst there were no vaccinations, the number of people travelling was a fraction of those numbers now (even post COVID19). So I think it’ll be an extremely long time before we get even a semblance of “normality” back - if ever
Just seen this. Feeling okay, bit of catarrh, still sleeping a lot, other than that no symptoms to speak of. Headache's gone, thankfully. Confined to barracks till Friday. Amazing what a point against the Mancs can do.
We've done the same, international travelling plans shelved and holiday funds used to buy a boat. It's fine for holidays, marinas with facilities cost €12-15 and there are some free mooring for short stays. Mrs Jab loves her floating wendy house, I'm not so happy with restricted access in the engine bay but enjoying doing the maintenance. What "normal" will be in the future is anyone's guess. I'm hoping for more international cooperation in safe travel with vaccine passports and a fast and accurate testing system. There's research being done on breathalyzer tests fingers crossed they can be developed and are accurate and cheap enough for worldwide use. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus_breathalyzer
Certainly raised the hangover stakes I'm sure someone emptied a birdcage in my mouth. All the best for a swift and complete recovery.
Great idea - if I were in your position, I think I’d do the same. Sadly, bring confined to “Plague Island” means the only breaks I’m likely to get are going to be around here and I was really hoping to do some kind of European road trip once retired …. Guess it’ll have to wait. Hope the breathalyser idea works - that would be brilliant!
I have taken the plunge and am flying to Spain Thursday morning. After the last few months, and 15 months of isolating to prevent Mrs B from catching Covid, I am in need of seeing the place we spent several years together and meeting up with friends who want to have a drink in my wife’s memory. I am both looking forward to and dreading the trip but I have legal responsibilities to attend to, following her death. More paperwork required for travel now, with proof of vaccinations and a “locator” form detailing where you are staying, as well as the usual things such as passport and boarding pass. I can still do the Newcastle match day thread, assuming we don’t fail to beat Newport, in case anyone is worried/bothered.
We went to Majorca 3 weeks ago, it’s not that bad if you have all downloads and apps in place. Best of luck Badger
Had an “interesting” pub debate with an anti-vaxer at the weekend. All reasonably civilised but his “go to base”, why should I take something that I don’t have to & might kill me? I tried a few different routes but he wasn’t having any of it. I decided to change the conversation to some other crap. It wasn’t until the next day when I was re-running the discussion that I realised I should have said, “if we had all decided upon your stance Dave, we’d still be locked up at home, instead of having the discussion in a pub with a load of friend”! All of which, btw have been double jabbed. Must remember for next time.
