I didn’t think much to him when he played in the championship but last season he was outstanding, I’m just hoping that was down to him taking time to settle in and not the drop into league one and the difference in standards. Also missing a full pre season can have a massive effect on the rest of your season so we can’t expect to much. It’s the same when going after other players in lower leagues like strikers scoring 10/20 goals but moving into championship level, has a team we couldn’t stop scoring last season suddenly we haven’t scored in three games. It’s early days yet and I do hope they are learning with each game and most can adjust to this level. It’s were we are with our transfers and I don’t see much changing. We are after a couple of Sheffield Utd players who are no where near their first team so how can we over expect from them, again they are not proven at this level you just hope that Sheffield have got it wrong and a change of club will do them good. The aim is to stay up and there is still time to adjust and bring a couple more in yet.
Elmo was a fantastic crosser of the ball, that's why he has 26 Premier League assists and 27 Championship assists.
My gawd there's some long winded fkrs on here .. playing out and out wingers will ways put you under pressure when we haven't got the ball, very few will track back and do the hard yards .. Grosicki and Bowen were guilty of it as well, we were a big fish in a small pond in league 1, this is a step up in quality, and as has been said some will flourish some will flounder, twt who does what. With limited recruitment of bargain basement players we are only gonna get similar.
In how many years ? He actually got it right when he went to Villa after us . He had better forwards to serve who moved to the ball , we don’t have that .
He got 26 assists while with us, in 213 appearances (194 starts), almost all of which were crosses into the box. In fact, he's probably the best crosser of the ball we've ever had.
I think the assists number is too high, but the above statement is wrong. In League assists, 14 for Villa in 4 seasons, 15 for us in 4 seasons (whoscored.com stats)
Statbunker: Ahmed Elmohamady All time stats for Hull City Matches played 213 Goals 10 Total started 194 Games selected 222 Sub 28 Minutes played 16588 Came on 19 Assists 26
Won’t argue with the numbers but is an attacking wing back getting one assist every 9 or so games good or not? I just recall sitting in East stand watching him time and again not beating the first man with curved low crosses . A bit more composure or practise maybe he could have done better. My main point is that Coyle tried the same against Derby and the crosses were eaten up . Coaching would help correct wasting this ball or losing it . I liked Elmo in general but when you are up again at it in the premier you couldn’t waste a ball .
My stats were out as whoscored.com managed to miss out his entire first season with us. On fbref.com you can do player comparisons, so I compared him to Cresswell who is a similar player but with a bigger reputation. They work out, based on the total minutes played across all games, the assists per 90 minutes, for Elmo it's 0.14, for Cresswell it's 0.12. That would suggest he can actually cross the ball.
Can’t argue with the stats but I saw what is saw maybe he had 10 attempts every game and cresswell had 4? My point is that Coyle had no success and once the defenders cleared it he was caught 60-70 yds up the pitch so Derby countered well . Maybe they allowed him this knowing the result , one medium height forwrd against two good centre backs , it’s a gamble but KLP was unlikely to outmuscle these two , and I like him. back to formations and plan a, b , c , d or coaching
[QUOTE Legend[/QUOTE] GREAT player for us. For those that believe Steve Bruce was our greatest manager, he clearly thought the same. Yep, even #legend. Oh for players like Elmo again.
Elmohamady without doubt had superb crossing ability, and could whip a fine ball into the box from a variety of positions. The problem was, he never ever ever looked up to see where City's strikers were before he crossed. Which meant that he often wasted a delicious cross by whipping it into no-man's land. Some of the blame for that rested with the strikers, but the principle blame rested with Elmo. He would do it time after time, match after match. It used to drive me mad, because he would basically give away possession.
That was my point and now Coyle is doing something similar . Several of the posters in this thread seem to think he was a great crosser of the ball! Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed - now Steve Coppell and Gordon Hill could cross a ball and I hate Man Utd What I don’t understand with this thread we’ve spent more time on Elmo and not on the actual fault with this move and the problem it causes. When Honey crosses a ball it’s usually faster more direct and precise and defenders find it harder to deal with . Come on , discuss .
I think Coyle's a decent crosser, but we do seem to have a weird tactical fixation this season with getting the ball out to him for an early cross to an offside Magennis. It's pretty rare to be offside from a cross but in the QPR game he managed it about 5 times in the first half.
