Farke confirming what we expected on terms of business. I might be reading too much into this, but I'm pleased he's named the positions we still want. You wouldn't think he'd want something out there which people could point to if he thought it was likely the recruitment team wouldn't deliver it.
Yes, the club has been consistently saying that, but saying and doing are two different things. The Brandon Williams loan looks likely next week but there is also the possibility of Aarons and/or Cantwell leaving. If that happens I doubt that we'd be looking at a CM/DM like Mahdi Camara. Mathias Norman looks more like what we want in that he's a DM/CM/AM, but he'd also be much more expensive. We can't know until the window closes, but these final deals could prove critical.
https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...on-williams-mathias-normann-transfers-8261308 EDP confirming that Matthias Normann has been "tracked for months" by NCFC, so that interest appears to be legitimate. Although Farke sounds more sure about signing a CB than a DM in this article.
Trying to read between the lines, it seems that Williams at FB is definite and,as you say, CB is DF's next priority after which a DM if possible. That they're admitting 'having tracked Norman for months' that's now looking a lot closer if a middle ground can be found. 12 days to go now. Edit: Josh seems ready: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/sargent-relishing-his-ncfc-challenge-8261880
Normann looks like a great talent, I’ve never seen him play but just going by the highlights on YouTube he looks more of a box-to-box player than a tough tackling defensive midfielder that we need. Maybe highlights only show his forward play as it is more glamorous. He looks like a slightly bigger and stronger Gilmour.
On the other side of the coin imagine the kudos a younger CB or DM would get if they came in and things turned around. We wouldn't be a bad stepping stone then.
Anybody else not a fan of ‘zonal marking’? The system didn’t work to any great extent last time we were in the PL and doesn’t appear to be working so far this season. If strengthening the squad doesn’t work then questions will be asked about DF’s tactics. The tactics will certainly be under scrutiny if we lose games against less strong sides in the league and stay bottom of the league. Sorry, wrong thread for this comment!
The Athletic had a piece recently explaining how a player is sold, which detailed the bids made for Buendia: -Aston Villa bid £30m+£3m add-ons -Arsenal followed up with £30m+£5m add-ons -Norwich told Villa that their bid had been usurped, and told them what would be required to secure Buendia. -Villa made the desired £33m+£5m add-ons+10% sell-on bid. -By the time Arsenal tried to intervene again, Buendia was having his Villa medical. -The whole thing was complete within two weeks.
