By your own admission you weren't at the game so how can you know. You won't get a true impression from Match of the Day as it only shows 10 to 15 mins.

You will believe what you want to hear that suits your argument but the reality is that blaming the fans for poor performances by the team is burying your head in the sand to the problems we have in the team.

It is up to the players to give the fans something to cheer about not half hearted performances the like of which we see too often this season.

I know times have changed since I was a North Bank regular and since the move to Emirates, the club has tried to build on the corporate fan base.
It's not just Arsenal, all the big clubs have done it. Since the money men took over the game, its been the route that's been taken.
I think there's more of the type of fan who goes to games these days who expects to see beautiful flowing football and only starts cheering when their team is winning.
The concept of getting behind your team when they are losing and trying to give them a lift, seems to be a rare commodity these days.
And as for booing your own players, if that had happened on the North Bank, the person booing would have been ****ing lynched!
I do think the fans get on the back of the players far too often at Emirates and it's bound to have an effect.
As far as I'm concerned, if you boo your own players, you might as well be sitting in the away end.

Are you suggesting there was any booing on Sunday, if not why mention it?

My opinion is that it's up to the fans to give the players a lift to help them play better.
Ask any player about the effect of the 12th man

Whilst I thought the booing on Sunday was well out of line i'm not sure we should only cheer the team like Piskie believes. They do need to know if what we are getting isn't good enough otherwise they will not be fully motivated to improve. I do think that we need to support the team more than we are doing at the moment though.

Well from what I heard, the team was booed off the pitch at half-time on Sunday.......True or False? Seriously, I have often wondered why Arsenal Fans are considered the "quietest", I have heard the stadium being referred to as the library. I still think we as fans have to raise our game, we only seem to be in party mood when we are cruising and leading with a 2-goal margin, and even then there is a bit "jitteryness" :). One thing we have to agree is that the squad of player we have is not good enough to challenge for honours..... but I think we can make the difference as to whether we make top 4 or not.

    That's more like it.
Pathetic to blame the fans, highest ticket prices in football we pay, people on here talking about us being spoiled and the like would want to get real. We are anything but, each fan funds the club and has invested their money, time and heart in the team.

You will never hear such lame excuses at other top clubs blaming the supporters, get a grip! If we are going to start this behaviour of blaming ourselves I see many more empty seats appearing in the future as is already happening.

The problems are on the pitch, management, coaching and tight fisted board. Without the supporters a club is nothing.

  9. They did what?

    How awful Gunner!!!

Something must surely be done so we do not suffer this frightful freak of a phenomenon again.

Sadly it seems they follow us on our travels too.....

Actually you know what? A draw at home, an equaliser in the dying seconds of extra time just like they way to do it in American Football may just fit into Stan's entertainment for the fans approach. This must be the era of the New Arsenal. Bring on the entertainers - Stan The Man and his Board ( Arsene's absence may be explained by Mr Samurai whose latest literary piece suggests he has become the England manager )

The ticket price argument is a bit of a red herring in my opinion.I know about the £100 ticket for a category A game but for the majority of games the majority of our tickets are comparable to most teams

With all these plastic fans we could start a recycling plant, a little side business that could sit alongside our economics and business school. Our number one rule will be "buy low, sell high".
Certainly Silent Stan will approve of this business venture and I am sure Arsene being the loyal servant that he is will go along with it faithfully.

I am still apalled that our fans have dragged the team down to such levels, if only the Carling Cup final had been played behind closed doors! Things might have been different...

  13. Now I'll bet even Stan N Ivan, the Terrible Twosome have not even thought of diversifying into plastics. What a brilliant idea Gunner. You should set up a strategic sports thinktank my friend <ok>

Then you could offer your services to Stan n Ivan and the club in their eyes, need never qualify for the CL again since the money's there. This is the new era of football too. No need to pander to UEFA's petty FFP rules anymore either <laugh>

    Your too kind Robin!

Perhaps we could do a side venture into a Fawlty Towers type comedy/sitcom, Arsene Wenger as the main character running the club team, Almunia as the Spanish helping hand.
Arsene is forever grimacing and kicking water bottles, the canned laughter goes into overdrive when he beats Squillachi with a branch after his latest foul up. I think it could be a hit. We have got to diversify Robin, these plastics won't last us forever, I think they are already thinning out... <whistle>

But what's this you say? Plastics thinning out? Not as a result of segregation, one hopes :emoticon-0138-think

I fear it may be due to a progressive fued between the "die hard" and the "plastic" - who are being driven out because of their unrealistic demands that their money be spent on their team.

  17. Ahh yes, that customary dose of ' get real '

Not I venture to suggest, a successful panacea. Of course, we are told different.
