Looked very, very quick, enthusiastic and sharp. He'll score goals, no doubt. He also seemed to be starting what looks like a productive combination with Adams. Was a bit starved of good service, and has a bit to learn at this level re effective runs etc, but a lot to be enthused by.
He looks good on the highlight reel. Too early to say an upgrade on Ings? At least the physios might get a rest I guess.
this is a pretty poor reflection on the fan base if it turns out to be true. Not singling you out but I hope you are wrong. 4 new players, a second string CB on the pitch and it’s the first game of the season. I thought we looked good and lots of positives. JwP wasn’t 100% in the middle today I felt that was stifling us a bit. Peraud and tino looked exciting, Armstrong - Danny who? Romeu had a good game. Disappointed with the manner of the first Everton goal but the second two were fantastic. I agree with anyone who says Ralph needed to make subs sooner, I was looking at the clock on 70 and wanting some changes. Tino looks a handful and if he had pushed up into walcotts position and KWP at RB we could have caused some real trouble IMO. good to have saints back!
Just back from the game. Thought first half we were good and in control of the game, but second half was same old Southampton. Worrying that the team never learn their lessons and make the same mistakes all the time. Also would be good to see Ralph actually be pro active with the subs. Probably the best sub bench we’ve had for a long long time. Everton were bang average who were dreadful in the first half but we were worse in the second. Would like to see an experienced CB bought in as that is what we lack big time in game management.
Oh I agree .but can be sure that if we carry on collapsing in games like we have been for some time now patience is going to run low
Problem with social media (well, one of), is that back in the day if your team lost, you'd be pissed off and then maybe chat to a couple of mates about it in the pub. Now you're exposed to, and end up reading and listening to the opinions of people who are barely able to do their shoelaces up without their tongue hanging out. It's not terribly healthy.
Yeah I don’t think Ralph has much credit left with the fan base after the second half of last season. If we are in/around the bottom 3 November/December time three I can see there being lots of calls for change
I'm a fan of Ralph, but come December if nothing has changed, well, yes, it might be time to think of options. If I had a magic wand at that point, I'd tempt Xavi back from the Middle East.
Just seen an interview with Jack Stephens where he says it was “same Saints as last season” At least it’s not just us then
I like Ralph to, but he worries me when managers change tactics, he seems very slow to respond. I said to my son after Everton scored that it would be nice for us to make the first subs to give Everton something to think about, but as usual they made a sub and went 2-1 up within 5 minutes. Like I said we had the best bench for ages and still he is non pro active when having so many options to change things.
One game though. Let’s see how we go. I fully expect us to get dicked next week, but the games against Newcastle and Wham should give us a better idea of how things look.
Yeah far too early to judge anything really. Thought Perraud was very disappointing on his debut, opposite to Livramento really but it’s only one game so see how he gets on in the next few months
Can anyone explain why we started with 2 fullbacks who have only been here a couple of weeks? When KWP is available? Stability at the back is so important.
I’ve also thought the same about Walcott his whole career. So many things baffle me about today but the biggest thing was what does Walcott offer that Tella or Armstrong can’t? In my humble opinion both are much more effective.
