Fraser in for next game then!

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to BBC Match of the Day:“For the first goal, the way the corner happens was nearly an own goal. There’s no need – Alex [McCarthy] can pick the ball up and everything is easy.

"Then you can see the atmosphere coming and you feel the pressure on you. We calmed it down a little bit but then we conceded a beautiful second goal.

"Until half-time it was a very good game from our side. The game was in a perfect way but it wasn't enough to get something, which is very hard to take.

"I’m happy for Adam [Armstrong]. It’s always good for a striker to immediately get a goal in a new team. The rest of the 90 minutes were absolutely OK. It’s something to build on."

I think some of that is very concerning to me.
Firstly he knows MacCarthy is ****, ****ter than a **** Fraser, so I sympathise a little. But he still picked the player he is slagging off, and not like these are like “where the **** did that poor keeping performance come from”.

Also, he says you could feel the pressure coming, and didn’t do anything until far too late, and basically took off Romeu for Diallo and kept the shape pretty similar from what I saw. Why could he react differently from what pretty much every fan watching could see, we got owned in the middle of the park.

He really needs to learn, and really, really concerned he doesn’t know what to do. You don’t have a run as bad as ours last season being able to do something about it, even grinding out draws and making us hard to beat.

But it stays fairly stagnant and that is the worry.

I read that as Armstrong performance was ok, he got a goal and the rest of the match was ok

If he means the team overall then he is an idiot

"I did think about changing but the players found the way they were playing in the first half - but we needed a goal. I wanted to change ten mins after HT but we showed that we were back in the game. The wrong changes can make it worse."

May be just me, but he is sounding confused, like a rabbit in the headlights and doesn’t know what to do for the best.

Dropping two of the generally accepted top three performers of last season (KWP and Stuey) was either brave or foolish depending on your point of view. I do get the feeling that he is still searching for that magic formula after 2 years in the job. The selection of Alex over Fraser was also confusing as the latter had outperformed the former in the alternate games of last season and it surely cannot be good to start the season not knowing your number 1 GK.
The last 3 seasons have seen Ralph start with an experimental team and a loss a it must be time for him to pick a team and stick with it and I think that Moussa and Theo are lucky to have got the nod over Tella and Stuey today. Tino had a very promising debut today but KWP was one of our most reliable performers and the stats when he was injured bear this out.

Yeah I wouldn’t be against KWP and Livramento playing together. KWP with Livramento playing where Walcott was “playing” today

I thought Djenepo looked our most dangerous attacking player. Should’ve laid one on a plate for Armstrong right at the end of the game though, and his decision making leaves a lot to be desired but thought he was ok today

You're sounding mightily disillusioned with footy recently mate, it was less than a year ago that we topped the league and less than two since we battered the Skates at Farton.
    Chin up mush...<cheers>

<laugh> Bit dismissive there fella :emoticon-0148-yes:

There are a lot, and I’m not calling for Ralphs head, and hope I’m wrong, but I cant see this ending well, his comments alone are concerning - for just me at least :emoticon-0105-wink:

I can see a time (soon perhaps) where we play KWP with Tino ahead of him. That will be pretty tasty.

Yes I suggested this after the Bilbao game. Tino is seriously talented.

I know, and I’m frustrated, as are all of us on here. I do really want this to work with Ralph, and I think after our digshit start to the fixtures I think we can bounce ok, heck I’m still hoping we can get some wins after the Utd game...
