Recent comments from Johnson regarding Hume and Grigg make me believe he is at the end of his tether with the pair of them.

I like the way he’s ha doing it. He’s dangling enough info without completely cutting throats.

He’s getting a great balance of staying the right side of the line.

I’m happy for both to be gone.

In about 6 weeks he could end up being a trialist in an u23 game somewhere tbh.

Rather than money I’d like to think it is a chance of Championship football that is delaying him which will be his agent in his ear. Wasn’t too long ago he’ll have been dreaming of playing in the premiership for us. As for recruitment if a better quality option becomes available then hopefully the club will cut him loose.

Championship? He'll be lucky to get a top half league 1 team mate.
He's barely even kicked a ball in the last 12 months. If he did some how manage to climb up a league he'd spend most of it playing for their U23s

in my perfect world, we hold our nerve until the back end of the transfer window, then get enough compensation for Hume to allow us to make a 'please **** off' offer to Grigg.

Makes you wonder if Hume and his agent expected us to panic like in previous years and cave in to his demands.

Then we went a bought a fantastic prospect from Spurs that completely ****ed them up and now he's stuck knowing he won't get the money he wants or much game time.

Ahh well, don't let the door hit you on the way out Denver lad

    LJ ON HUME CONTRACT
Lee Johnson has shed some light on Denver Hume’s contract negotiations, claiming that Sunderland are prepared to move on from the fullback.
    DECISIONS
"I think so [move on]. I think there has to be a point. Because at the moment it doesn't feel like a resolution is two or three days away, and yet the window is creeping up on us. Decisions have got to be made and they will be made. Inevitably, it will end up where Denver will have a choice and at the moment, I can't give you those answers.”
    PURGATORY
"Denver is nearing the point where he's fit and available to train. I think everyone feels like they're in purgatory a bit.”
    PROTECTION
"Naturally Denver want to protect himself and the club has to go through the process of protecting themselves as well. At this moment in time, the club and Denver's advisors don't feel they can meet in the middle and match up in terms of their valuations."
    TAKE OR LEAVE IT
"I'd say at the moment it's take it or leave it with our offer and at the moment, he has left it. That's fair enough and that's his prerogative.”
    DEVELOPMENT
"At the same time, there's been a lot of work that's gone into developing Denver because he's a really good player. That's the shame, I suppose, because there's a really good player at the moment without a contract here or another club."
    BUSINESS
"It's just business and a process that every club would look to do. When you've offered a young player an increase in their wage and it's turned down, it's your legal right to retain the compensation rights.”
    SOLUTIONS
"There's no doubt that part of the process is causing us a few short-term problems, but in the end we hope we can get to the correct solution for all parties. “I think we're getting there. We've had the emergence of some good young players, which I've enjoyed. We've brought in some experienced players to get that blend.”
    TARGETS
“It's fair to say we're still in for a full-back or two and that's an important part of the jigsaw. Then, we always want to keep increasing the quality. There will be some bargains available, I'm sure, and we've got to stay active. I know the team, including myself, are on it all hours of every day.”

sounds like we've got DH and his agent over a barrell to me, as long as we've covered all bases compen-wise, I' say move on without him, we can't let an (ex)players agent dictate any aspect of our transfer strategy. well done LJ and co., lets get on with business.

Sounds like we have dealt with this professionally. Give him a offer let him decide, don't budge when he thinks he is in a position of strength (no full backs).

I think the club have given up on him bit need to keep the deal on the table to get the compensation.

Yep, and this is why we've continued to do everything right, letting him use SAFC facilities for his rehab etc.... (people moaning about this need to see the bigger picture) Now he's almost back to full fitness lets move him on, and the PR excercise will do our reputation no harm. hopefully recoup a few quid as well.

Spotski onski!!! Some clueless individuals out there think he’s taking us fir a ride whe, in reality, the club are simply protecting their investment. We can’t “cut him loose” as it leaves an academy graduate free to join anyone he wants. As long as there is a contract for him here, the club can make money on him. Well done KLD and the team. Although, if you listen to some on certain forums and social media sites, you’re clueless and have no idea!

We're also possibly obliged to assist him with his recovery as we were his employer when he suffered a work place injury

If the lads out of contract, as he is, then as of the end of July that would have been his last pay packet from the club. If he is being treated for an injury and doing some rehab i'd be surprised if the club are not looking after that part free of charge or through insurance..
