You know, sometimes I wonder - what if the absolute greatest player, Maradonna, had graced the Top English league? He did say, after Istanbul, that Liverpool were his favorite English team. Maybe he was pissed - it was after Istanbul. I don't think we could afford him though, in the 80's. In fact, let's be honest, at that time, probably only United in England, even though Liverpool dominated the game then, could afford him.

Then you get to my next point, concerning Maradonna, Messi, Ronaldo, etc, etc. When has anyone of that stature said 'Do you know what? I'm ****ing rich, and no matter who I play for, with all my sponsorship deals, I'm still ****ing rich. I really, really just want to play the game and win real trophies'. And then sign for PSG? Okay, they got to the CL semis. But at least three English teams, and probably Bayern, will always beat them. So, thinking of Coutinho's dad too, when is enough money enough?

I could have told them the Monaco pitch was shot 20 years ago.

In fact it's our 20 years anniversary.

Helsi k OK but northern Ireland and a ware zone in Ukraine. Brilliant thinking by uefa there.

In fairness to Northern Ireland that little stadium looked like a great deal of money was spent on development.

Still am. £150k a for a guy who hardly plays, plays **** when he does, and is just a glorified cheerleader. Money well spent.

I’m very happy with the squad. That doesn’t mean we don’t look at the market. But as long as nothing happens, I’m more than happy with the squad I have, more than happy with the players I have,”

“We have so many things which you can’t sign: you cannot sign pressing, you cannot sign counter-pressing, you cannot sign atmosphere, you cannot sign togetherness, you can’t sign the atmosphere we can create in the stadium, you can’t sign Anfield, you can’t sign our anthem, you can’t sign a lot of things."

    Jurgen Klopp

Milner gives us so much that you have never ever seemed to get.

what you call cheerleading I call massive example to the younger players, setting the tone in the dressing room, driving the intensity.

He played rb, lb, cm (no 8), cm, (no 6) he allowed us to not sign a player at LB until one was available (robertson, and then tsimikas) just by existing. you cannot underestimate the impact of that flexibility and reliability on the squad as a whole as it allows us to focus on the players we really needed to buy.

The influence of mcallister on gerrard was massive. in many was senior players influence players more than coaches as they set the tone, be it dodging and doing enough and back biting or by controlling the dressing room and not putting up with ****.

IMO the influence of milner of our own younger players will be massive. As will imo the influence of salah and others who don't quite get that credit but do the same.

and will continue to want praise an adulation all thier lives.

Look at owen and mcamanman. Turned their backs on us for spanish gold but want to be then minded and treated like legends for all time.

Most players think they become legend and despite harvesting millions feel they are "owed" when they retire.

Its hardly like the olden days where a player had to work or rely on the kindness of fans after he was done and had pissed it all up against a wall.

Lol but he doesn't play any those roles particularly well ... And yes, I'm sure he has his influence in the background. That's why I call him a cheerleader. I'm more concerned with what players do on the pitch ...

Where was the influence when the chips were really down last season? I didn't see any leadership from our captain or vice captain. We can talk about how they good at keeping players in check but it boils down to one thing - having quality on the pitch. It's not coincidence we started winning stuff when we added quality players to the team.

In a nutshell - I know what Milner brings to the team and I appreciate it. But I won't overhype it's importance ahead of the actual things that helped us be successful.

    You miss the point then.

What goes on all week every week in the background influences what happens on the pitch. this is why massively talented squad or players do nothing and implode at the first sign of tough times. We have seen it time and time again with different clubs where managers are said "to have lost the dressing room" etc. what they really mean is the senior players are not bothered to do any more than pick up the pay and leave it to someone else to drive the thing. A strong senior cabal that won't take any **** from other players is the most valuable thing any manager can have. quality is important but seeing what it takes to win things is vital to building a team.

Attitude trumps sunshine boys every time.

Where was the leadership last year? Henderson literally burst his groin running everywhere form LCB last year trying to drive that team on. But yes as soon as we added phillips to the team results did improve massively ;)

a PSG can sign anyone they like but they play like 11 individuals.

Thing is ... who else can afford Messi? It probably only was PSG and maybe City had not they spent £100m on Grealish.

This is Messi's last pay day before he draws curtains on his career. As the best player in the world and possibly in history, he is entitled to that. He gets to live in a beautiful city, sample a different culture, be paid handsomely and also play alongside some of the best players in the world. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone - he is literally the best player in the world.

You're right - we only won CL and PL because we had Milner as a leader in the background LOL. Nothing to do with the world class players in Allison, VVD, Trent, Robbo, Fabinho, Mane, Salah being absolutely boss. Nothing to do with Klopp being a top class manager.

It's mostly down to Milner being a cheerleader in the background ... got it.

God, yes. He'll be in the gutter outside Blackler's with a can of Special Brew and a scabby dog on the end of a string if he doesn't get every last cent he can from his last deal.

Lol so what do you want him to do? Go and play for Accrington Stanley, for free, so he can prove to people he can do it in another country?
