Four-year deal agreed: Cirkin arrives at Sunderland to complete Tottenham transfer - Sources

    https://www.footballinsider247.com/...rland-to-complete-tottenham-transfer-sources/
Dennis Cirkin has arrived on Wearside to complete a transfer from Tottenham to Sunderland, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The defender, 19, is joining the League One giants on a permanent deal after they had a six-figure bid accepted by Spurs.
A Sunderland source has told Football Insider that Cirkin is on Wearside at lunchtime today to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches to the transfer as well as sign a contract.

    Great signing

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Dennis Cirkin for an undisclosed fee.
Arriving from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, the highly-rated left-back has penned a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
The 19-year-old becomes SAFC’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following Alex Pritchard, Corry Evans and Callum Doyle to Wearside.
Born in Ireland, Cirkin moved to London at the age of three and he quickly rose through the ranks at Tottenham before being named in the Londoners’ senior squad for the first time aged 17.
Described as a player with ‘a lot of quality’ by former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, the left-back will be eligible to make his Sunderland debut on Saturday when the Lads travel to MK Dons.

After joining SAFC, Cirkin said: “I’m delighted to be here. As soon as I got interest from Sunderland, it was a no-brainer – the fans, the stadium, the history – and I just thought the club was perfect for me. I feel like the Head Coach has a very good track record with young players and I feel like this is a place that I can progress and develop in my career.”

Lee Johnson added: “To get a player of Dennis’ quality at 19 speaks wonders in terms of what we’re trying to do because he is a top talent and he’s very highly regarded within the game. We have been really happy with the signings we have made so far and we will bank this one, but we will continue our work quietly and efficiently to try and get a couple more over the line.”

    Dennis Cirkin Player Profile:
    https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/teams/under-23/players/dennis-cirkin/
Born in Ireland, Dennis Cirkin moved to London aged three, attending Wanstead High School.
A talented left-back who reads the game well and isn't shy of pushing forward to support the attack, he featured regularly for the Under-16s in 2017/18, scoring seven goals.
He made 14 appearances for our Under-18s in 2018/19, including a start in the first ever football match to be played at our new stadium as we beat Southampton Under-18s 3-1 in a Test Event match there in March, 2019. His two goals during that campaign both arrived in a 5-1 win at Swansea City in August, 2018, while he played a key role at the back as we secured a second-place finish in the table.

He also played two games apiece in the Under-18 Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup and made four appearances in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League, including starts away to Barcelona, PAOK and FC Porto. Having also played once for our Under-23s in the Premier League International Cup, he made five appearances at that level in the Premier League 2 during the second half of that season.

In January, 2020, following a number of impressive performances for our youth sides, some of them as captain, Dennis was named on the first team bench for the first time in a 2-1 FA Cup third round replay win over Middlesbrough at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He has represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 levels.

There's every reason to believe we could be watching half of Englands future defence playing for Sunderland, this season...

Jose Mourinho has and he thought he was good enough to join in with Spurs' first team. The Spurs' supporters seem gutted that he's left - that's good enough for me

That's LB all but sorted.(caveat not seen him play yet, but comes with good recommendations). if "take me home, country roads" does not sign in time for this window, then its likely we will play one of our talented players out of position, rather than bring in a make weight, who was not good enough. Hmm a prize for who I have in mind!

So we’ve signed a left back. Young. Promising. From a premier league club. On a four year deal. And one of his biggest reasons was Lee Johnson.

So this is a clueless recruitment team, manager and owner (who is also skint) who should’ve signed someone from somewhere else cos they went to a club in our division…

    have I missed anything?

been taking a lot more notice than i normally do of recent postings and have to say we really do have a totally negative bunch in amongst decent fans, strangely enough i was expecting a couple of 'humble pie' posts but no, some are still seeking to put a negative spin on things.

you know what lads?... i have been wrong a few times and i will always hold my hand up when proved wrong, i find it hilarious that others cannot do this simple thing but choose to dig themselves in deeper and deeper and i am seeing a lot more of the reasons why some posters call them out regularly.

right now i am buzzing at the way the club is handling things now and with the additions to the squad and yes, i have had a couple of niggly doubts along the way but always held faith that they would get things done, why can others not be the same?
