We’d need a taker and I’m not sure there is one for either of them unfortunately One would be ideal for a CL club who needs English players for their squads but they now seem to have enough unfortunately
Would love a I would also like Johnstone and would ideally like McCarthy to be the one to go. At least FF just gets on with it whereas McCarthy always sends my BP sky high with his holding on to the ball at his feet so long while being closed down. He did it again in our recent friendly and got caught out yet again. I think he recently signed an extension so probably won’t happen…
I also thought Bertrand’s attitude on the pitch was a bit iffy on quite a few occasions. His body language often left a lot to be desired.
I had Monday Night Club on 5 Live on in the car just now and I thought I had entered some parallel universe. The consensus was that Southampton could very well go down this year because the squad has been “stripped bare”. As well as Ings, Vestergaard and JWP have also apparently already left, which was a bit of a surprise, and we haven’t brought anyone in either. Great work, BBC.
We are certainly in the mix, along with 5 or 6 others. But yeah nobody cares about Saints apart from Saints fans so unsurprising the pundits don’t know much about us
You say that, but the reason they get paid as pundits is to know about us and every team in the Premiership surely? Other wise they are just football fans.
They have been saying the same kind of thing about Saints literally every season since 2014. It’s just laziness. Magic is right, they can’t be bothered to find out stuff about Saints, we’re not important.
The top 6 combined number of fans probably comfortably out number the rest of the league, so as long as they know what they’re on about with them then that’s enough for the listeners
Ok, I can’t see us finishing that high My not very likely prediction for the season is that Leeds get relegated
Not sure about that, but regardless, the league is 20, not 6. Just lazy for the most part. Once season starts they start to notice, and Jenas and Scott were very complementary last season. When we were smashing it that is.
Just done some very quick *** packet maths. Looking at Twitter followers (I know, but a quick easy way to get some numbers) Chelsea alone have 17.5m followers, the rest of the league outside the top 6 combined have 16.6m I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to think the top 6 have more fans than the rest of the league combined, especially if you are talking global fan base. If you are I’d go even further and say that just Man United and Liverpool have more fans than the rest of the league
Fair enough. I suppose there is little to and fro with the odd **** seasons by the biggies. Glory hunters eh. Overrated. They should try some misery the pussies.
From the pundits point of view when there is actually games to watch and talk about then it’s easier to talk about the ****ter teams. Actually looking into stuff during the off season isn’t really worth it from an interest point of view for people reading/listening. Neutral fans are also probably slightly interested in what Utd/Chelsea etc are doing in the off season, very few will be that fussed about teams like us Burnley etc
We’re much more glamorous than Burnley! Wash your mouth out! Not sure on neutrals, but you are probably right though, I just love it when the the status quo gets challenged.
Commercial revenue can be used as something of a shorthand for this, given that #brands will spend roughly commensurate with the assumed number of eyeballs they'll get (unless it's a sponsorship deal that involves squirrel-based shenanigans). The 'other 14' have slightly more combined commercial revenue than Man Utd, but not by a huge margin, and if you remove Everton then the 13 non-glamour sides make less.
I reckon Wolves will go down. It's hard to judge this season as many teams have not strengthened due to finances. Saints look like they will lose three of their better players and replace with unknowns so you can see why we may be relegation candidates. Alternatively, with a preseason and less condensed games we may be able to return to our successful pressing game.
