Sounds sensible, I know there is a lot of criticism about Obafemi but he is still a very promising player and desperately needs a season of first team experience which won’t be here, we shouldn’t give up on him yet either.
Yeah, I don't think he will make it with us but it would be stupid to just let him go for free. If he has a decent year in the Championship then at the very least we could get a few £m for him next summer.
Hope there is some kind of option in here otherwise it doesn’t seem like the most ideal scenario. But even if there isn’t it is probably not too much of a concern since he isn’t getting in Chelsea’s squad any time soon with Lukaku joining for huge money
I'm pretty excited about this one. I know he probably won't start every game but he gives us something completely different, that we haven't had since Pelle. We seem to have lost the ability to cross a ball in the last few years and try to walk it in, instead. He could be the Plan B that we have all been crying out for.
If we couldn't get him on a permanent it still makes sense to bring him in on loan. We need another striker and if things work out here he still wont be anywhere near Chelseas first team so could be a deal to be done next summer. And if it doesn't work out then we can move on to another striking option next summer.
RE: O’bafemi Would be interesting and slightly disappointing if we let him go permanently, would prefer an extension and loan. Maybe we see a couple of our B team lads as potential squad strikers or we hope we can turn Broja into a permanent at some point.
Maybe we will include a buy back option and large sell on slice. Ive heard it is all the rage, these days.
With the Ings sale we are pretty much break even for the summer likely with a decrease in wage bill too with the departures of Bertrand, Hoedt, Lemina and Ings. But Long and Ely are back on in full - no idea how much we covered last year So we could be relatively level there but it looks likely we have lowered the wage bill as well So I wonder what our initial budget was for the summer / what is left over for further signings ? I expect us to at the very least fill our last available PL loan spot . Are loans capped to 2 in general or just two from the PL?
But despite all that I don’t think we came into the summer with a budget of 0. Because we spent circa 10m on a Bertrand replacement and were hoping Ings to sign a new contract so not expecting a sale and certainly not one at 30m. And would have needed to budget replacing at least him and Bertrand which was never going to be for just the Ings fee So it stands to reason that we had a budget before all this. Perhaps that just gets taken as a saving and moved into next year. But perhaps not
Assuming Broja goes through today & Armstrong tomorrow, I would expect at least one of them to start against Everton. Normally we do give players time to settle in but with the choice being Long or Obafemi (if they are still here) or Armstrong or Broja, I can only see Ralph going with one of the new boys. Either that or he may give Walcott a run out up front.
Good competition though, so they all need to up their game now the only absolute starter is cashing it in in the Midlands!
Quite the opposite IMO. We took out our loan specifically to cover those losses so squad investment was unaffected.
