You have to hope if we have been told 10-12m for Phillips from Liverpool we have politely declined whilst trying not to burst out laughing The board should be well aware of Liverpool overselling **** players and be considering. Especially to south coast clubs.
Completely agree. The fact we gave a poor 33 year old a 2 year contract is the problem and Semmens is at fault. You can't blame Shane Long for signing it or being a bit crap!
Think we need two if poss, as likely Shane won't feature too much. Both Shane and Oba could go on loan then perhaps.
the test is actually whether we CAN replace Ings. 15-20 goals will cost big bucks or will be an incredible bit of scouting and negotiating.
According to The Sunday Times match report, Blackburn are expecting an improvement on the £8m bid we’ve already made…
I think some of us on here could learn a thing or two from Shane Long he never gives up unlike some of us on here who go into meltdown when things don't go our way (me included at times)
And not just The Sun, but more specifically Alan Nixon. He's more getting things wrong where Saints are concerned since before Alex Crook was born. I wouldn't pay any attention to what that guy writes.
Bang on. We've had players who don't seem to be playing for the shirt etc. You can never say that about Shane long. I get he wouldn't make most fans matchday squads but there are always games where hard work and mischief is needed. Just running down the clock and buying fouls off the bench is helpful. Obviously, squad depth is key and his time will come to an end at some point, it'll happen with a thank you from me.
I have heard from a friend that has been a good source in the past that Saints aren’t looking to spend big money on a striker, and if we get one in it will likely be a signing in the mould of the livermento one. (Aka young and with big upside potential). Hoping he’s wrong on this one though…
I like Shane Long, he seems like a good guy. My mate Phil is also a good guy, I wouldn’t want him playing up front for Saints either. When he goes it will be with my thanks, but if we are honest he has never been particularly good
Maybe he wasn't good on the goal scoring front but it's the harassing of the opposition defence trying to force them into mistakes etc the things that a lot of fans don't see that he has done very well. Some top class defenders have said in the past that he is a nightmare to play against. I'm sure that's why we bought him in the first place because he has never been a prolific scorer for any of his clubs in the Prem except his decent goal scoring season under Koeman
When you're getting paid £60k per week you need to offer more than a willingness to chase defenders down. No one has ever disputed his work rate but the fact that the only good thing anyone can say about a player is that he works hard says it all.
