Maybe Ings will be Chelsea’s last resort if they can’t get Lukaku. At least you’d think they’d pay more than Spurs.
Chelsea fans on Twitter are suggesting this, and aren't particularly happy/excited at the thought of it.
It would make sense for them to go for Ings if they can't get any of their big money targets this summer. However it would be unlike Chelsea to accept that they can't get any of their big money targets and I think they are probably more likely to just throw more money at them until they get one of them.
I kind of assumed Chelsea’s options were Haaland, Lukaku and Kane (although Levy would never sell him to there) with 4th choice being - no one (at least until next summer)
It isn’t the statement they want to make. They want a truly elite level goal scorer. Ings is not that I don’t know why there aren’t linked with Mbappe given he has one year on his contract. Unless he has made it clear it is only Real he will leave for
Which is why I think they'll just chuck more money at it until they get one of them. Haaland goes for 75m next summer. So they could buy Ings for say 25m now, and Haaland next summer for 75m and still spend less then it will cost to get a Haaland or Kane this summer. However that would be defeat to Chelsea and Abramovich. They'd rather spend more than necessary to get what they want when they want it.
They’d never get Kane as Spurs wouldn’t do business with them. Haaland is a no-go this summer and Lukaku proving to be expensive and Inter seem very reluctant to sell as they’ve built a team around him. I could deffo see them opting for Ings for the year
Which could squeeze some more money out of Chelsea .. Say £30Million. We could then fund Adam Armstrong and another striker. So it wouldn't be too bad for us if they could security the right striker.
I could still see Haaland moving this summer, you'd just be paying a significant premium to get him a year early. If a team was willing to offer say something north of 110m they'd probably pique Dortmunds interest because they know they will 'only' get 75m for him next summer.
Plus the idea of waiting for a year to buy for 75m presumes they’d get him, of which there’s no guarantee at all, plenty of other clubs who may be far more appealing to Haaland if he has the choice
The Spanish sides might have their finances in order by then. That price also brings Bayern to the table As well as the Manchester clubs who have already spent big this summer Even Liverpool might try and free up funds by selling Salah or Mane give Haaland’s comparative upside (wages might be an issue for them though)
Real Madrid and Barcelona are a billion euros in debt each. They need to sell all their under performing players on high wages eg Bale. So I would be surprised if they went for Haaland even in a year's time. Atletico Madrid are always in lots of debt. The rest can't afford him.
I’m not prepared to rule out another government bailout for Real. Or the successful launch of the Super league that they haven’t given up on I was really interested by the recent court case on that. They got a friendly National court in Madrid to throw out uefa’s sanctions and started crowing about a victory. I didn’t see any comments anywhere to help clarify how a Spanish court could rule on the actions of a multinational organisation that isn’t even based in Spain. Unless I missed something there
