... or the world's gone mad. I'm all for charity appeals and kids being sent to overseas clinics for lifesaving treatment ... ... but this story looks like just another teenager saying 'Mam, can I have ...' to me. His family want cash, from the public, to send him to America to coach kids over there, I assume their aren't any in South Shields. They're saying, "We’re just trying to do all we can to make this a reality for him.” I think they're a bloody long way from reality. (Either that or they just want him out of the house.) https://www.shieldsgazette.com/news...dream-football-scholarship-in-america-3330824
I say good luck to the lad. Just shows the lengths some people will go to to get out of South Shields Only joking sandies
Jesus wept, also years of hard work, he’s ****ing 18 man. We all had dreams when we were that age, but if we couldn’t afford then, tough. If I had a spare 14k, I think I would give it to someone more deserving It’s like that black and white prick over the road, the lorry driver one living in Georgia, setting up a go fund me page so he could buy an air conditioned lorry to start a business transporting dogs across America. It’s your dream you make it happen Or shall I set myself a page up to my dream home in the Caribbean, after all it’s been years of hard work and I’m still nowhere near it.
I wanna be a pro golfer. Could the kind gents of Not606 please ste up a gofund me page so that i can dedicate my time to pursue my dream rather than work to pay the mortgage. I think 300,000 should cover me for the first year or 2 whilst i get my handicap down from 26
It's all a symptom of the madness of the world we live in. Don't pay for anything if you can get some other daft bastards to chip in and do it for you. It used to be parents that would fork out for ****e like this. If they couldn't afford it, tough **** kid. Thats life!
I could do with a new boiler and the ridge tiles on the house need replacing. Need to get a go fund me page up and running.
And by the way, what a way to show an 18 year old how to get on in life. Don’t worry son, if you can’t afford it, some ****er daft enough will pay for you He will spend the rest of his life scrounging for stuff. He will be wanting a Kindig designed “Bitchin Ride” next, or an OCC ****ing bike He’s 18 if he wants to get on in life, he has to find a way to do it, otherwise he will spend the rest of it being a spoilt ****. My son needs his car repaired, I can afford it but why should I? He’s been earning a wage for long enough now and hasn’t bothered to save. There you go son, one of life’s little lessons
Same with these food banks. Yes some people don't have loads of money, some struggle to have a full cupboard and fridge but I believe there's a large proportion of food bank users who milk the system for all its worth. Why spend on food when you can get it for free? more for you to spend on fags, booze and drugs if some dopey twat is filling your cupboards every week for nothing. We are a country of free loaders and as long as there's those who sympathise and provide all this free stuff a percentage of the population will continue to take everything on offer and keep coming back for more. The more you give the more they want and expect.
Tend to agree. There are people in every walk of life flouting all of the systems to get something they are not entitled to Had a scouse lad work for me a few years ago, caught in mid conversation with a few of my younger members of staff describing in detail how to ride the Metro for free. The look on his face when I just suggested he pay his way like everyone else - you'd think I'd asked him to explain the Quantum theory in Latin
Part of me thinks that if they have the nerve to ask for this, then good luck to them. It's absolutely not something I'd ever do, as others have mentioned for a start it's a terrible life lesson for the kid. The people who really need their heads checking is anybody who contributes to it. There are 1000s of charities in this country alone that are struggling for funds. And thats before you look at the rest of the world and all of the atrocities and horrendous things going on elsewhere. If you have money to share for charity or the good of society, don't spend it on sending some lad to the states. Especially because as he's been taught you can get whatever you want, when you want, he won't truly value it and will likely come backk after 6 months as he's homesick.
The reason those who pay have to pay so much is those who navigate their way around not paying their way. Same for any form of theft, none of it is victimless and it all makes me sick.
It'll go down well with the locals when he turns up, takes a place and thinks he can teach them about football ... ... not sure he'll last 6 months tbh.
The trouble is Smug, most kids between 13 and their 30's want it now without doing anything to earn it. Most seem to want it delivered up on a plate or feel they are entitled to own the best trainers, the best designer clothes, the need to drive flash cars or own flash houses without doing anything in return, you know what I mean.
A bird over here just went viral complaining 10 months of lockdown has driven her to bankruptcy. All the influencers shared it. Someone set up a go fund me type of deal and the good gullible folk of the internet sent her 60k. Turns out she's in regional Victoria which has barely had half the lockdowns of Melbourne. And she'd ran her business into the ground with 400k debts prior to the pandemic. Some poor **** gave her 10 grand for her business last year and she spent it on a trip to Bali.
The lad is probably mortified that his family are publicly begging on his behalf…. then again, maybe not.
I keep saying to our lass that there's always someone after your hard earned money, I don't mind giving to charities now and again when I've got spare change but it puts me off giving when there are actually telling you how much their want. Not just charities though there's loads of companies out there that's not content until you've got nothing in the bank
"Luke’s family is setting out to raise around £14,000 to cover the remaining costs, including payment for a recruitment firm that helped him secure the NJCAA placement." Basic scam?
I won’t deny that some are in genuine need of food banks- but as you say , for some it’s just a freebie. I wonder where all their family members are , probably thinking “ I could help them , but why spend my money on them when strangers are doing it”. As fir the people who donate , would they still be there if the takers were saying “ all my money has gone on food this week- can you please give something to the tab and lager bank”
