Well done! It was good to see Pompey get a deserved win. Nice to see that the manager leaving seems yo have given some sort f boost to the team. However we see this happen a lot with teams. Well done!
It quite often happens when a manager leaves a team; players seem to raise their game a notch. This was a must-win game. It's a bit early to call it a six-pointer, but I would have been very disappointed and a little worried if we'd lost.
If that was raising your game, it must have been unbelievably poor under the Clott. The first half was one of the worst examples of football I've seen in many a year.
When it looked like Cotterill was leaving it reminded me of when Burley left us to go to the Scotland job. We had made the play-offs the previous season but sitting in mid table during this one, there was a bit of frustration that we weren't achieving and no one cried too hard when he left, I guess we were looking forward to a change of scenery. Then we didn't win any of the next 10 games and alarm bells were ringing big time. Nigel Pearson came in and it went down to Super Sunday, somehow we stayed up but in reality the damage was done - Pearson and most of the squad left and unsurprisingly we went down the next season (and almost worse). Anyway, the point of all that was that sometimes you don't know what you've got until you ain't got it any more. So I was a bit worried for you guys but winning on Saturday was a good result. To be honest you really shouldn't go down as there are some bad teams down there. If Pompey bring in a good manager who can build a bit of a team then I would say you've had a decent season.
It was AWFUL football under Cotterill. This season, anyway. First half wasn't fantastic, but second half was a definite, and very welcome, improvement <oK>
I agree with MattDaveDavies assessment of Saturday’s game, the first half the players looked like they lacked some confidence and we were lucky with the Barnsley shot from nothing that hit the post I saw it from behind in the Fratton end and the modern ball corkscrewed so much that it could have gone in or wide. And in the second half I thought it was a great and well-timed bit of defending by their number3 to stop Varney when he was put through.
I remember a worse, very poor (for one team anyway) first half, which was about six and a half years ago. The second half was even worse as, try as we might, we couldn't hit the net, despite being in excellent positions to do so 5 or 6 times, at least.
I echo my congratulations again after today's victory. Nice to see you playing with more freedom etc... Blessing in disguise
Now for the perfect end to the weekend I wanna see Dave Jones or Solskjaer appointed manager tomorrow
I wanna see Solskjaer appointed tomorrow. Or Robert Prosinecki - 9 of his team got fined for not playing with commitment in a friendly, which they won 3-1. Now that would up the game a bit! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15414623.stm
