Good Morning. It's Wednesday 28th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Greenwood's set piece lights up social media Leeds U23's kicked off their pre-season with a win against local rivals Guiseley last night at Nethermore Park. Exciting new recruit Amari Miller made his debut for the Whites, but it was Sam Greenwood that stole the plaudits, for a sublime 20 yard free kick that would have beaten most Premier leagues keepers. Summerville opened the scoring on 19 minutes after being hacked down in the box. He stepped up himself firing a rasping shot into the bottom left hand corner giving Guiseley's keeper no chance. Their lead would not last long though - 3 minutes to be precise. The home side broke down the right wing, squared a ball to Thompson, levelling the game from close distance. Just before half time Leeds showed their superiority. Dead ball specialist Sam Greenwood stepped up from twenty yards. With power and precision, the 19yo delivered a missile into the top left upright sending thousands of travelling Leeds fans, and many more on social media into ecstasy. Leeds extended their lead six minutes from time. Summerville's hard work was rewarded with an assist after finding Allen in space, in the box. The 17yo tucked the ball away to make the game safe. Guiseley grabbed a late consolation two minutes later, but Leeds held on for the win! Long term absentee Adam Forshaw continued on the road to recovery. The 29yo played 30 minutes of the second half. please log in to view this image Leeds heartened by Brekalo news Leeds have received a boost after hearing that Josip Brekalo has asked to leave Wolfsburg. Whilst the German outfit are open to letting the winger leave this summer, he is likely to spark a bidding frenzy with many top European sides credited with links to the 23yo. He is currently valued at 15-18m, but that figure could easily rise . The Croatian winger is not just a technically gifted but has explosive pace. Other reports liken him to Arjen Robben! please log in to view this image Bielsa to field strong side against Lancashire rivals Leeds travel to Ewood Park this evening to face Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers. Bielsa is expected to field a much stronger team than the one that dispatched Guiseley at Nethermore Park last night. Niall Huggins, Jamie Shackleton and Ian Poveda are all expected to play a part this evening, along with new recruit Firpo. Rovers Manager Tony Mowbray is set to unleash Ben Brereton tonight. The 22yo forward enjoyed a successful campaign for Chile recently during the Copa America; catching the attention of both Bielsa and Orta! The game kicks off at 7.30pm. please log in to view this image
Morning all A good run out for the U23s yesterday and hopefully some valuable game time tonight for the likes of Firpo Preseason all you can really hope for is that the key players remain injury free
Morning all Yes it was our U23s who played last night but they are part of the first team squad, and the match was billed as Leeds Utd. The kids did well last night and lets hope Gelhrdt isnt too badly hurt because he lit up the first half. Everything good came from or through Joffy. Summerville overall was MoM but Cresswell and Kenneh were solid. When we play Fleetwood you will see us field 2 teams so the U23s will be integrated into both teams we send out. Bielsa will get to see how some of the U23s perform with first teamers against EFL players Good to see Forshaw and maybe he will play the first half tonight thats why he only played for half hour last night.
I hope Gelhardt is ok. he does seem to pick up a lot of knocks and injuries which I hope isn't going to be a worry. This Pic and his face doesn't give good impression though does it. hopefully it's all precautionary.
Would love to see him in action for the first team because it is the only real way to find out if he is good enough in all honesty and, ironically, he would likely get less injuries in the Premier League because 1970's tackling is no longer allowed (well, unless you are Brazilian and play for Man City). Oh, and morning all
Yep. Me too. He might persist with Struijk in the Phillips role instead of Koch. Mr Bielsa can be a tad on the stubborn side sometimes.
If you haven't payed there is a link on youtube for the game. not sure how long it will last though as with it being youtube it can go down anytime.
