Mong is used to describe someone who is stupid...nothing to do with downs syndrome....fcuking snowflake. If you think it refers to anything else its more a reflection on who you are..nothing else
Why do you think there's an association or equivalence to stupidity. Do you think maybe because of its roots in the term mongoloid?
Snowflake…Brilliant reposte. You’re simply wrong I’m afraid and unless you have Down’s it isn’t up to you to decide whether it is an offensive term or not. Just because you don’t use it to deliberately cause offence to people with Down’s doesn’t mean that others don’t and for the person hearing it in casual conversation they don’t get the chance to sit and have a rational discussion with you about what you mean…you’d simply sound like a bully. I maybe am, as you say, a snowflake though so…
Are you using snowflake as a pejorative term? I’d be proud to be called it, as it would usually be someone right leaning, conservative and closed minded calling me it to mark me as distinct from them.
It’s literally rooted in the view that people with Down’s look like people from the Mongol race, and in the 1800’s there was a view, from Down himself that there must be a genetic link (you could argue, not that I am, that to still use it is racist as well) However in the 1950’s that was should to be incorrect when the actual gene was discovered. It is still used by bullies to harass people with Down’s and it’s not a term I think you should be used as a ‘joke’ or as a dig about someone’s lack of intellect
It's always funny that the term 'snowflake' is usually used to denote someone who melts easily, and yet it's always those quickest to anger who throw it around.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/kevin-kilbane-lodges-complaint-fa-5218766 educate yourself - its offensive and has everything to do with Downs Syndrome - ''At that time, people who have Down’s syndrome were generally referred to as ‘mongols’; they were considered to be educationally sub-normal. Many people who have Down’s syndrome lived in institutional settings such as long-stay mental hospitals.'' 'I was naive': Finally Ricky Gervais apologises for 'mong' comments after mother of two disabled daughters is reduced to tear
There was a big survey done for Ofcom in 2016, which they used to gauge public opinion of the use of language on TV, it was broken down into general swear words, racial language, sexual and gender references, offensive gestures, older people, religious insults and disability/mental health references. The four disability references overwhelmingly objected to, were Mong, Retard, Spaz and Window Licker. It's quite interesting, if anyone's interested... https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0022/91624/OfcomOffensiveLanguage.pdf
All the CSM stuff came from when we were having it a bit with the Sunderland board what 6-7 ? Years ago didnt it I’d never heard it before then And we tossed it around a lot on here Times moved on as den said I don’t think there was any harm intended in it at the time we just used it against Sunderland posters
I remember CSM getting quite a bit of use some time back, just checking its acceptability in todays climate. No problem with not using it as we aren't really short of "epithets"
“Thoroughly enjoyed being back out there over the weekend,” “Not having a club all at last season was very tough at times. “Appreciate Grant and the coaching staff allowing me to train with the team to maintain and build up my ‘football’ fitness.” Tom Huddlestone
Just as someone wouldn't mind be called a gammon as it would be someone left leaning, intolerant of other people's opinions and closed minded calling them it to mark them as distinct from them.
Former AFC Wimbledon defender Terell Thomas is unlikely to be joining Hull City this week. City had been in talks with the highly regarded central defender following his departure from Plough Lane at the end of last season, but Hull Live understands the 25-year-old is now likely to move elsewhere. Thomas remains in talks with another Championship club while there continues to be significant interest from League One in the Rainham-born ex-Charlton youngster, and it’s thought Thomas’ desire to play regular football will be the number one factor in deciding his future destination.
