Australia has lost a great & true gentleman who help pioneer World Series Cricket in the mid 70's.
He also found Paul Hogan and produced and co-wrote the Dundee movies.
He was also a part time actual who didn't mind taking the p1ss out of himself.
His name was John Cornell but we all knew him as 'Strop', from the Paul Hogan show, which he, his loving wife Delvene Delaney and Hoges wrote and starred in.
A good charitable, humble man is has passed.
    Vale Strop.

Australian entertainment legend John 'Strop' Cornell who shot Paul Hogan to fame, put Byron Bay on the map and changed world cricket forever dies aged 80

John 'Strop' Cornell has died aged 80 following a 20-year battle with Parkinson's disease.

Cornell is best known for discovering Paul Hogan while working as a producer on TV show A Current Affair in 1971, before later becoming the legendary Australian actor's manager.

He and Hogan also produced Crocodile Dundee together in 1986, which remains the most profitable Australian film of all time.

According to theSydney Morning Herald, he died at his home in Byron Bay surrounded by his wife Delvene Delaney, his eldest daughter Melissa, and his youngest daughter Liana on the phone from the UK.

Farewell: Paul Hogan's best mate and longtime manager John 'Strop' Cornell has died aged 80 (pictured together)

'A classic Australian character, John Cornell made the lives he touched much richer, not only through donations, but also through his generosity of spirit, humour, humility and honour,' his family said in a statement.

'A true egalitarian, John sought equity and equality, and fought for a fair go.'

Cornell was fundamental to the establishment of World Series Cricket, which created the one-day form of the game.

He worked closely with media mogul Kerry Packer to begin the rebel competition, which sent shockwaves through the cricket establishment.

The pair launched daring raids to sign the best players in the world and Cornell played a huge role in the marketing of the breakaway comp as it rose from early struggles to become a landmark in Australia’s sporting history.

Cornell got his start in the 1960s as a journalist for The Daily News in Perth.

He later became a producer on Nine's A Current Affair, which is where he discovered Paul Hogan, who was working as a rigger on the Sydney Harbour Bridge at the time.

He became Hogan's manager and eventual co-star on The Paul Hogan Show, where he played 'Strop'.

Back at it: He reprised his role as Strop for a beer commercial last year (pictured)

From there, he produced and co-wrote the screenplay for Hogan's 1986 film, which became the highest grossing Australian film of all time.

Cornell and his wife owned several properties in Byron Bay, beginning with a home they purchased together in the 1980s.

At the time of purchase the beachfront pad was worth around $325,000 dollars.

It was later sold for around $10million to Harvey Norman heir Glen Norman.

The 2.3 acre property is based on Belongil Beach and has gorgeous views of Cape Byron Light-house, Julian Rocks and Mt Warning.

John owned a lot of property around Byron Bay and surrounding areas, including the popular Hotel Brunswick at Brunswick Heads.

In 2013, Channel Nine executive David Gyngell spent $5.25 million to buy a half share of the hotel.

In 2017, Cornell spent $3,375,000 on a property in the Byron Bay hinterland.

The property sits adjacent to a 18-hectare parcel that Cornell's owned since the 1980s.

Australian actor Dieter Brummer, best known for his role as Shane Parrish on TV soap Home And Away between 1992 and 1996, has died aged 45.

Brummer was found dead at a house in Sydney on Saturday by New South Wales police responding to a welfare call.

The force said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

In a statement on Monday, Brummer's family said: "We lost our handsome, talented, funny, complicated and beloved Dieter.

"He has left a massive hole in our lives and our world will never be the same" it added.

"Our thoughts go out to all of you who knew him, loved him, or worked with him over the years."

Brummer was enormously popular on Home and Away during the 1990s, playing the love interest of Melissa George's Angel Brooks.

The Seven Network, which airs Home and Away in Australia, said it was "deeply saddened" by the news.

"Dieter was a much-loved Home and Away cast member and celebrated by Australian and international audiences," a statement said.

"We send our sincere condolences to Dieter's family and friends during this very difficult time."

Brummer joined Home and Away aged 15 and became a fan favourite - crowned most popular actor at Australia's Logie TV awards for two years running in 1995 and 1996.

He was also twice voted "prince of soap" by Dolly magazine readers, as viewers became enchanted by his storyline with George.

Brummer left the long-running soap when his character was written out after dying from septicaemia in 1996, but continued to act in TV roles, including true-crime drama Underbelly, Winners and Losers and a 26-episode stint at rival soap, Neighbours, as Capt. Troy Miller, in 2011.

In later years, Brummer revealed he took up a career as a high-rise window cleaner after departing Home and Away to experience life out of the limelight.

He told TV Tonight in 2010: "It was a pretty intense time coming out of high school to receive all this fame and adulation.

"As great as it was, I wanted to prove to myself I could get my hands dirty and sweat for a buck as easily as standing around on set, being primped and preened."

    'Keep flying'
On Monday, co-stars and celebrities paid tribute to Brummer following news of his passing.

Brummer's former co-star Emily Symons, who plays Marilyn Chambers on Home and Away, shared her sorrow on Instagram.

"I can't believe this absolutely tragic news," she wrote alongside a photo of the pair together.

Fellow Home and Away star and family friend Steve Comey wrote: "Heartbreaking news. We have lost a free spirit. Vale Dieter Brummer. Way too young. Way too soon.

"My sincerest, deepest condolences to his beautiful sister Karlene and all of Dieter's family and friends. Keep flying young fella."

Georgie Parker, known as Roo Stewart in the soap, also paid her respects.

Long-standing cast member Lynne McGranger, who plays Irene Roberts, tweeted: "So very sad. Please reach out. Ask if people are doing okay. And tell someone if YOU'RE not okay! Yell over the fence, call, message, Facebook, whatever it takes."

Actor Steve Bastoni added: "I met Dieter Brummer on Underbelly, he seemed like a decent fellow. Very sad news."

Damian McBride, former Downing Street press secretary, said Brummer was "a burst of light in every mid-90s day" during his time on the show.

British comic Tiff Stevenson also paid tribute to Brummer, revealing she had a poster of him on her wall as a teenager.

"Australia seemed so impossibly far away and glamorous" she wrote on Twitter. "Nowadays everything feels close, real and fallible. RIP Dieter".
