Wow, they're standing up. This could jeopardise peoples safety and create another Hillsborough somehow.

I know! Lets get about 20 stewards and police to barge into them! That'll calm things down a bit...

The old bloke is disgrace. He should have been sitting, I'm glad old codgers like him who refuse to abide by the law are dealt with. Gone and got himself a hearty now.

Just kidding. But in all honesty the video does only tell half the story. In my experience its like anything else, you get good and bad stewards. The police however, you get very few who aren't stuck up their own arse abusng their position.

You'l get some stick for this in all likelyhood but you're right.

I'm in no way saying that in any cases mentioned here the stewards are right or wrong as there's little context but, mostly, they can't be blamed for enforcing the rules set by those above them.

The upper leagues of England really need to introduce the ability for clubs to have "safe standing" policies at their grounds and there'd be little to no friction between fans and stewards, atmosphere's would arguably be better and the club could probably sell more tickets! (obviously not so much that it'd be dangerous)

Maybe if the clubs are worried about ticket prices they could put the standing areas in premium sale areas to balance it out (on the touchline for example). You'd pay the same amount to stand as you would to sit in some of the worse areas in the stadium but the club can also sell more tickets as you could probably fit slightly more people in a standing area.

They'll probably cover it up, have been for years, worst team I've seen for stewarding and policing in this country.

You don't even have to do that though, the safe standing campaign that's been going round have the maths on the website. You need marginally less space for a space and a small fold down seat than you do for a proper seat, so over a full section you actually make more money.

Also glad I've got some agreement rather than a million accusations of being a prawns sandwich fan...

I've been saying it for years now. The modern breed of steward would not look out of place in a black uniform with a swastika armband. In fact, they are of the type who would have sided with the Germans in 1940 had they invaded.

Even at Gateshead they're a pushy lot, seemingly always trying to provoke people. One day they'll bite off more than they can chew. Obviously you need stewards at events with large crowds, but a lot of these are just failed policemen or soldiers on a power trip.

How very macho of them, bet it made them feel real big and important! Hope he sues the club and get's a few grand out of them, or the club offer him a few grand to keep quiet and let them keep face.

Got to say I've never seen any of our stewards acting heavy handed and trying to prove how important they are. The senior steward who now has Supervisor on his orange patch has always been friendly and helpful too. He took great care of an old lady that got clocked in the face by a wayward Nolan shot during a pre match kick in.

Yeah, our stewards are not bad.

They pissed me off though when they blocked my view when they were telling people to sit down.

Apart from a fierce drive, I don't think so. She never mentioned it if he did and I've spoken to her a time or two.

    I know who you are!

Stewards in strawberry been getting a lot of stick recently. There's one mean bitch of a woman steward, miserable as sin, black hair, middle-aged... she took someones coke can at half time once, poured it out infront of them, crushed it and threw it down the stairs whilst everyone was laughing at her <laugh>

Compared to yours i'd say so and to the other guy who said "it's the police" like that makes it ok/making light of it/tarring all police with the same brush.
It doesn't matter how difficult your job is no one is above the law that includes the police and this includes man handling people (which was started by the steward 1.18mins in and is in affect an assault) as others have pointed out why pick on the old guy when others around were doing the same.Read the youtube page and description of the events by the guy who was there and you'll see we weren't jumping on a band wagon. Not all stewards or police behave in this manner and if you can't see anything wrong with how they behaved (regardless of how the old guy behaved) then my answer will always be <doh>.Nobody said all stewards are like this but the guy who grabbed the old guy imo should be sacked, didn't see him going for a young fit lad but then again cowards don't.
