i'm really surprised that HIAG didn't have much in savings. Even though he wasn't a hot shot lawyer, he's still a solicitor and they are on good buck. He didn't strike me as the extravagant sort to go spend frivolously.

By the sounds of it his partner can’t access any of his savings as they weren’t married and didn’t own a house. I have no idea about the legal side of something like this but sounds wrong that somebody you shared your life and kids with can’t get access to your money if you die unexpectedly. Not having a will obviously doesn’t help either

Wasn't married to his partner, had no will, and didn't own the house. So his missus and kids have been left with **** all and struggling to cover funeral costs and rent apparently. This is according to the story in the Guardian, which his step daughter outlined.

It beggars belief that a solicitor would leave a situation like this to arise. But there you go, the situation for his family must be really difficult atm.

Probate can be a really complicated affair, especially if there's no Will and by the sounds of it, HIAG was married before so that could also cause complications about inheritance. Hopefully his family can get through this difficult period without the extra burden of financial difficulty.

Don't know why, I always assumed he lived on his own. When he posted pics up I thought he was in some nice batchelor pad, for want of better description. That's why I thought he bought expensive guitars, because he had nothing else to spend his money on.

How more wrong could I have been! I assumed he was loaded or that was the impression he gave off, solicitor, gaff, guitars etc. Oh but hang on, helipads in California.....

As a solicitor, for him to not have a will despite not being married to his long term partner is beyond belief tbh. I’d urge anyone who reads this, who’s got a family, whether married or not, please ffs sort out a will, it’s a simple process and costs next to nowt.

The glamourous lifestyle, country retreat, fast cars and helicopter trips that HIAG wanted us to all believe were obviously BS. I just find it tragic that the reality of his situation has come home to roost for his poor family. And like Tobes says, why as a Solicitor he didn't have a will in place, especially given that he wasn't married to his partner, just heaps more tragedy on the situation.

I'd have thought his partner would still have a claim to his estate. I have a feeling he never left a will because by the sounds of it, he never had anything to pass on.

Not sure how to write this but he didn't seem a very good bloke away from the forum and clearly a little selfish. He could and should have looked after his family better.

If you don't leave a will, I thought it leaves a claim open from all parties akin to the deceased. So what I'm saying is and this is only an assumption, no will equals problems for the partner of a relationship.

Unless of course as you mention, someone has nothing to pass on.....see earlier where I said I'm confused.

Regarding the will, my grandfather and uncle passed away without a will, and it was a nightmare, even tho my grandmother was married to him for 50 years everything was in his name ( as was the way in the olden days), so it all had to go to court, and all the family members had to sign forms to say they were not contesting that she should get all his belongings, luckily all of them were supportive but it would only take one disgruntled relative to contest it. Even without anyone contesting it nothing could be touched ( bank accounts ect) for 6 months, and it has to go to court. The whole process cost thousands, and was a complete nightmare, I am in Scotland so the law might be slightly different but it wont be that different in England. So get a will if you have not got one and save your loved ones a lot of hassle and expense.

Always liked HIAG, was great entertainment, and a good laugh, RIP

Only come on the prem board occasionally so just seen this. Had my fair share of run ins with the bloke and wasn't his biggest fan as I found his wummery tedious after the first few times. He wasn't averse to turning to personal insults either once the holes in his arguments were exposed. None of that changes the fact it's still a tragedy for his family though, all the more so because it was all so preventable.

Despite my frustrations with him as a poster there is no doubt he added something unique to the site and sparked some interesting discussions and meltdowns. He was one of the few posters who managed to properly trigger me, but was also always aware he seemed like he had issues so took it with a pinch of salt.

RIP you mad bugger and don't wind St Peter up too much! <rose>

Not an easy post to write, as it was always gonna take some big news for me to break my silence.

    So i'll keep it short.

Hiag was one of the foundation blocks on this forum for some years, so thanks for the memories Les. Gone but not forgotten.

    that is all.
