Face masks restrict the fluid and spray coming from people’s mouths and noses which will undoubtedly restrict the virus that travel in the fluids. To say they are pointless is utterly ridiculous.
Cases were rising massively at the time masks were no longer made compulsory. That’s why we had the same old idiots telling us to keep wearing them.
Why do you think that inhabitants of Southeast Asia have been wearing masks for years prior to Covid ?
Well they must work fantastically well then. Seeing as COVID came out of that region, and spread like wildfire.
It was for other viruses that circulated in that region prior to covid, if people don't want to wear them it's up to them. Personally I am all about lowering risks as opposed to enhancing them. Each to their own though.
Scientific research showing why we should wear masks. There were doubts about their effectiveness early in the pandemic but the rate at which have learnt about this virus and ways to combat it has been astonishing. Part of the problem has been that its not been possible (and is considered unethical under the circumstances) to carry out controlled tests on the effectiveness of masks. https://www.pnas.org/content/118/4/e2014564118 https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02801-8 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2776536 https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-mask/art-20485449
I see the Americans are considering making face coverings and masks mandatory in double jabbed bods again, owing to a huge surge in Covid19 infections.
Masks are still to be worn in Wales. I ordered Sunday dinner takeouts at a pub down the coast here yesterday. Whilst waiting I ordered a pint and boy was it nice and cold. Chatting to the barmaid I mentioned I lived on the border. Friday morning straight off nights I'd driven a couple of miles to a Tesco in England. No mask required and £5.50 cheaper for a tray of lager due to Welsh booze tax FFS. Not having been to a pub I asked the rules (obviously I'd entered wearing a mask) She explained, basically you don't need one when sat down or in the beer garden. She went on to say a lot of tourists from England are coming in without masks and when explained the rules, are then refusing to wear one. So they're refused to be served and barred
But surely we do not need scientists to tell us that as the virus can be spread/passed on like an aerosol spray...So if we have an effective mask we are less likely to breath it in and become infected or spread the virus to others, if we have it. The exact %s that is is true doesn't really matter, does it? Or am I missing something? I guess flat earthers, will believe it so, even if they went up into space in one of the billionaire rockets and looked back and saw the world was round. It would be a conspiracy, a cover-up or restricting freedoms etc. I wonder if they wear seat belts?
