Well that’s why I said if we could get him on League One money then he’d make a hell of an impact over 20 or so matches. He’s never played loads of games. Just one season in his whole career I think.
Well in 18 days time we will have just kicked off the new season so if any new players are on the way they had better hurry up and get here, there was lots of mouthing off about huge sums of money a few weeks ago but I don't see too many quality signings so far, but Celina would fit the bill.
I think what we have bought, is definitely an upgrade in quality from the outgoing players. My biggest concern still is the defence, we need 2 more CB's in and another LB to cover (or play instead of) Penney and maybe another RB (assuming Burns is going to further forward) - so basically a complete back four is required
I never wanted Evans to bankrupt the club by being reckless but it shows we’ve barely spent any money at all and we’ve turned over half the first team and not heard excuses. It has never been all about spending money. The pleasing thing for me so far is we’ve signed a couple of players who can score goals. There is still a long way to go to build a good team, as stretchy says we need to sign more defenders. I still think we need players all over the park.
It wasn't difficult to improve on the players who have left but as has been said we need more key position players, there would appear to be quality players available but we are not landing them, if we are seriously trying to get out of this piss poor division then we need players who are better quality than this.
There’s a funny ‘article’ on Football League World, which is duplicated over and over again for different clubs about free agents. It names Adam Reach. I can’t think of a better signing for Town within the realms of possibility. Celina would be fantastic but he probably didn’t have the best experience in his loan spell.
That shows the reality of our situation, as soon as we go for a decent player the fact that we are a 3rd division side comes into play and the deal is more difficult to pull off, just another example of the damage Evans brought on the Club.
I’m feeling pretty relaxed; we’ve signed one of the best no10s, a proven goal scorer who gets tap ins and goals outside the box, two good cdms etc. The CEO is a man in pursuit of excellence across the non footballing and on pitch aspects of the club. We’ve fallen a long way it will take time to build it up but a lot has been achieved already. Does my one know much about how active our main rivals are in the transfer market; Wigan,, Portsmouth, Sunderland all have billionaire owners and weds will have a 75% turnover cap on wages… how are they getting on?
There’s a good article here from a couple of days ago, there was also a similar one from EADT about a week ago. I’m not sure how accurate / up to date it is. There’s also a transfer page on the BBC site but it’s not filterable by division. Sunderland surprisingly quiet so far. https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...-wednesday-and-other-league-one-sides-3312457
As far as I can see, only Portsmouth under Cowley are seeing the same kind of player turnover as us and I imagine much hinges on the ‘right’ player for the way cook requires them to play. Wykes going to Wigan is weird so I suspect Sunderland are still in disarray to lose their top goal getter, despite their fans proclaiming he was average and was served chances on a plate… as things stand we won’t walk this division but with more additions promised we should be as competitive as the other top teams in L1. I have a feeling Piggot will be a machine; he’s cool as cucumber with the eyes of an assassin. Don’t ask me how I know what an assassins eyes look like…!
Morecambe have done a lot of business. Sometimes the clubs coming up can be a threat, just look at Lincoln.
I’m generally disappointed we are doing loan deals. He is a player I would like to sign on a permanent basis. If we can go up we’ll have a lot more bargaining power.
I understand what you're saying happy so I suppose we have to think of loan players as a means to an end, if their contribution gets us out of this lousy division then its been worthwhile but I draw the line at training other Clubs youngsters with no benefit to ourselves.
I never really believe a player we can get on loan is going to make that much of a difference to a season and I couldn't name you a single defender who has come in on loan and affected a season.
Bersant Celina's Wikipedia Page says he signed for Ipswich today on a 3 year contract. Do you think there is anything in this or just bs As expected now been removed, think them pesky budgies have been playing silly buggers!
Clapham had a handful of appearances as a loanee and then signed permanently. If you have to go all the way back to the 90s to find anyone worth mentioning it kind of proves the point.
Coulson is not really a defender tho, i think he would be a very good loan and i wouldn't mind betting it's with a view to a permanent deal!!
