EPL player arrested on suspicion of child sex offences

Everton have released a statement saying they’ve suspended a player.

 

His name didn’t stay secret for long.

 

He hasn't even been charged with anything yet so let's not jump on the trial by social media bandwagon.

 

A 31 year old player for Everton who are/were regular internationals...that's a very, very short list. A list of exactly two players, in fact.

The purpose of withholding the name of the player while publishing enough details to make it rather easy to figure out is odd.

 

I agree, but not sure anyone is jumping on the bandwagon - it is quite striking & alarming football news, that is being discussed on a football forum!

Could be quite a good time to play Everton opening game of the season, with Richarlison also possibly out due to the Olympics.

Mind you, Townsend got the assist in our opening day defeat last season

 

I'm not saying anyone has, but I'm a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty and I'm trying to be proactive. If he's charged then it starts to look real bad. After all, you can be arrested purely if an allegation is made.

If I was the unaccused one of those two I’d be pretty pissed off.

 

Maybe I’m being dumb, but even with the clues I have narrowed it down to no one.

Not bothered- innocent until proven guilty and it will all come out in the wash.

We are talking about peoples reputations and lives and the impact on their families as well as the victims and their families which is why this thread is so dangerous.

It is best left for the law to take its course.

 

You know, you dont have to read it...

 

And you and others post unproven stuff all the time on the Politics thread, that could also be construed as ruining peoples lives and reputations.

It is a major news story in the football world, if you dont like it, I cant really help you, other than suggesting you dont view the thread - although you did read it and posting numerous times on it

 

Polítics and football are two different things. I think it is fair to have a pop.at politicians who make bad decisions, set a poor example and speak like an empty bucket hence the relevant page. As for having a go a sportspersons, I don't indulge in criticism as that can have an impact on the value of their own lives as well as their families.

 

That is ridiculous to my thinking Ides, we are all people at the end of the day, and could be more consistent.

Your approach just targets a certain section of society, when any criticism to anyone has the potential for the same impact, politician, sports person or other.
