For anyone who wants/wanted hess out just listen to the interview and listen to what he says. every single word out of his mouth is exactly what a gills fan would be saying.

    1. we've been poor at set plays defensively espically today - note what they've been working on all week

    2. Kuffour was targeted for weeks and even tho unfit will now look to produce the goods

    3. some players have been completely off the boil and need to prove they are better players (Whelpdale)

Hess really does seem to know what he's doing and if players played to their potential we could be much higher than we are. i know many people will come on and say noones calling for his head (espically given we just won 5-2) but its just a reminder should this not be a complete turn around in our fortunes

I'm still on a bit of a 'high' after yesterday's victory, several things that make it feel so good...

After the 6-1 win at Hereford, some people on other sites were just stating how poor Hereford were. Although many other teams never rolled them over in the same style. Then Torquay, now they were up for the fight, coming back from 2-0 down, yet the Gills finish the day with five goals. Now for Rooney, scores one from the spot but the one I really would like to have seen, is where he ran from his own half and set up Nouble. Will the doubters please stand up - lol

What I would really like to see now is this Saturday, to absolutely smash Oxford in the same style, because then maybe people will just start to sit up and take notice.

The big question now even if any players return from injury, would you still play the same side against Oxford?

I think Lee would come back in, and I would now look at bringing Simon King back in place of Richards, but if Frampton is fit ,does he come back in,in place of Lawrence, who has played well in his last two games? Difficult decisions to be made by Hess,as also Jackman and possibly Kedwell will be fit next week. I would rest Kedwell for a while now, whilst Nouble and Kuffour are up front.

agreed jokeykid, hess is very aware of all that is not right, i still 99.9% think he is the man to take us forward to the good days!

hopefully j payne is back next week, but would give lee abit longer to recover because something is missing with his game at the moment???
the team yesterday should be given the chance again next saturday and rip oxford apart.
like someone else said kedwell needs a couple of games off, though if he has toe ligament damage...surely he will miss another couple of games anyway?
with jackman playing so well before injury, do we bring him back in for montrose or leave it so montrose can show his worth...hard one.

like brb said though we should keep with the side that performed at torquay, though the defence is obviously debateable to say the least.

give king a few more games at plymouth then get him back hear. i did see he wasn't even in the side yesterday...anyone know why???.

i would play the same side (if all fit) I dont know why but i predicted defeat yesterday but when i saw the team i had a good feeling! Oxford will pose a completely different problem with a very good away record, in fact all the papers i have seen this morning predict Oxfrod to win! We need to follow up these good wins with some consistency now to claw our way into the top 3 :)

Great result yesterday, but it will be worth nothing if we don't build on it. We certainly have the talent going forward now. It's also good the Hess dint let the 5 goals gloss over the obviuos ongoing defensive deficiencies. Oxford and swindon will be the real test of our promotion credentials. Talk of smashing oxford is great but for me, a couple of clean sheets against oxford and Swindon would be a more progressive achievement, nicking a win by the odd goal.

Oh come on, why is it after a defeat it is all "lets not get carried away it was just one result" but after a win it is all "Hess is great, we are world beaters" etc etc.

The simple fact of the matter is that the results and performance this season have been sporadic at best, can anyone recall a game where we performed for an entire 90 minutes? And is that good enough for a club expecting promotion? I would say no it isn't. Don't get me wrong I am not suggesting that we should give up on Hess but it does get on my wick when superlatives are laid at his door by rose-tinted glasses wearing fans who think the sun shines out of his rear end.

The result yesterday was good, but the fact we scored 5 papered over the cracks, we were not three goals better than Torquay in terms of performance, we defended marginally better that them which is why we won. Torquay were poor at the end of the day and yet they still scored twice and had us against the ropes for periods of the match. Promotion form?

As for the comment that Hess is great because he noted all the faults with our performances, then everyone he is also a great manager. We all have noted the flaws but Hess' job is to sort these problems out. The defensive worries are a big concern I would like to see King return to help ease the problems and I wonder why this hasn't happened yet considering the Frampton injury.

Although, to be fair I think the Kuffor signing was a good piece of business, as was the Nouble deal.

I've seen the call for King's return mentioned a couple of times, I thought I read somewhere the reason he did not play for Plymouth yesterday is because he was injured?

So if we call him back, the only thing that is going to give us is an extended injury list - lol

ps. just found this on the Argyle site...

Injuries to Simon King and Luke Daley had dictated that manager Carl Fletcher was obliged to make two changes to the 11 that had started the previous week's 2-2 home draw with Accrington Stanley.

Of course, the joy of these types of boards is that everyone can have their say and then (hopefully) they can be discussed in an friendly manner.

Hess is the manager currently and I will back him and the club until the day they part company (for better or worse) and then I shall support the next man in charge. I am far from anti-Hess and I am certainity not calling for his head at this stage of the season as the wouldn't help it anyway. That said I am not blind to Hess' mistakes and flaws. As previously pointed out the form at theclub has lacked any real consistancy; poor start last season, better middle but some awful results at the end cost us a playoff place and this season has b een up and down so far. I feel that unless Hess can sort out the consistancy issues it will be another season of heartbreak. I back Hess but I refuse to buy into the hype

Oh well with that new information I will withdraw the "bring back King" statement. By the way what are we doing in training, we had a bad spell of injuries last season and it has continued into this one, and the majority appear to be training ground issues....

this wasnt put up to be a hess is great lets all praise him and join a cult thread, it was a thread to make people aware that hess knows more than people give him credit for and that the players should take more of the resposibility from inconsistant and below par individual performances rather than hess being inept

I wouldn't change the team for the home game against oxford. The performance was fantastic despite what people would have said, even though i was fearing the worst at 2-2. I said on the terrace during the game 'i wonder how kedwell will get back into the side after this?'

Kedwells injury could be of been a blessing. Playing Kuffour and Nouble up top forced the team to play on the ground and as we can tell, it worked. Don't get me wrong, i like kedwell, but we just seemed better without him on the pitch. Rooney has now learnt to pass a little more which helped set up the 2nd and 4th goals.

My only concerns is the defending of set pieces. Had problems with them all day. Their left winger caused problems all day but fish just couldn't keep up with his pace. But i think usain bolt would have had trouble catching him!

if lee, kedwell, jackman and frampton are fit this weekend. Leave them on the bench. Let montrose, weston and whelpdale keep their places. They deserve a second chance.

Every true fan wants Hess to be the man to take us up but that doesnt mean he is beyond reproach. last year it was players under performing and now with many different players its still on too many occasions, the players under performing- As manager and this year with a team he has chosen, the buck should stop with him if there are too many poor performances. As fans do we not have a right to discuss the reasons why?

I am still behind him 100% but will continue to raise doubts when i feel they are valid. A single victory after a poor run doesnt suddenly remove any questions that have been posed over the last few weeks and make us world beaters, as by the same token, during that bad run no one called for his head.

Time will tell how good we are and the meantime it seems to me that everyone is 100% behind Hess- that doesn't mean we cant question the teams and his performance at times

As BSG says surely that is the point of these boards

The board is here to discuss whatever the Gills fans want and whatever their differing of opinions maybe. Some times there is stuff I don't agree with but so what. If we all agree with one another there would be no debate to keep the board active, I struggle enough sometimes in thinking of topics for a football team that mostly only plays once a week. I'm sure some of you can remember from the old BBC606, I'd post a thread up along the lines of...'Stimmo is God', always guaranteed a reaction and certain Hessy topics are no different. No abuse, No insults, just a good old debate.

Alright Lenny <laugh>, funny that I was beginning to wonder when you might turn up <ok>

I think it's only fair to show consistency, I might have to start a 'Hessy is God' campaign next, why do I keep getting a feeling of Déjà vu...
