Oh I will. And I'm immensely proud of how far the team has come in just a few weeks. Just a bitterly disappointing way to lose.
Credit to Italy, they never let us play in the second half and looked the most likely team to win but England can be proud of the tournament as a whole.
We played far better than I expected tonight. That match was calling for a player who could take good set pieces and a decent penalty. Not sure where we could have got one of those… maybe they should have gone instead of Henderson… Oh well runners up is best we have ever done in Europe. And players all put a shift in and gave us an England team to be proud of.
Meanwhile 32 and I have still never seen a team I support win a trophy, witnessed three losing finals Saints and England combined now. The JPT was cracking but it doesn’t really count .
If England prepare properly for Qatar in 18 months time they should go far in the tournament. Kane will still be in his prime and the likes of Sancho, Foden, Saka, Bellingham will be even better. The future is definitely bright.
A shame it had to end that way. Fair play to those that took penalties with all that pressure, thought there were more experienced players on the pitch who should have been in the first 5 No backlash, still annoyed with rashfords stutter pivotal penalty.
All in all a great tournament with some thoroughly enjoyable football played. We have a good looking team and there's plenty of potential for development. Positives abound. **** to lose on pens but there it is.
Southgate bottled it tactically. Can't believe he didn't play 4-2-3-1 from the start. We got a goal with basically our only attack in first 65 minutes and just tried to hang on with 3-4-3. Mount was dreadful again, like last game and shouldn't have been playing from the start especially not on the wing. Kane went missing in a big game again. The defence played quite well, as did Rice and Phillips (and Pickford) but our attackers all had poor games. It was screaming out to change to 4 at the back all game and he didn't do it until we conceded. Then he negatively played 4-3-3 to match up Italy instead of 4-2-3-1. He also brought Grealish on on the left..OK he plays well there for Villa but Imho in an international should be central behind the striker with pace on the wings. Kane should have been taken off after an hour but he kept him on for the whole 120 + about 15 minutes or so of injury time. 135 mins is a long time to play with a striker that's anonymous. Bringing on Rashford (at right back!) and Sancho so late was always going to be a huge risk (especially at Wembley). Being physically and mentally cold and being dropped into the cauldron of a Euros final shootout was likely to end in tears and it did. I think it would have been safer to go with something like Kane (captain and pen taker), Shaw (scored in the game), Henderson (2nd leader) plus whoever else on pens. That being said it's inexcusable to miss the target on a penalty like Rashford did and caused a huge momentum shift in the shootout. Pickford had a decent enough game and did well on pens. Really disappointing to lose not just to miss out on Euros, but would have given huge momentum to us for the World Cup. Hopefully the players will stay hungry and Southgate will learn from his mistakes. Anyway I'm rambling.........I'm just very disappointed.
Only when they get a more attacking coach. It was so obvious to bribg Grealish on at 55 minutes when Italy were bossing it. We need to hold the ball. No change and when there was it was Henderson for God sake. England will win nothing with Southgate in charge. Nice man, but can influence a game
You would hope so but look how much time Grealish, Sancho, Foden, Rashford etc. have been on the pitch. I want us to get more out of our exciting offensive weaponry and I am concerned we won't under Southgate.
