The tactics from the 46th min let us down. Saka and Henderson coming on instead of Grealish and Sancho let us down. Not changing anything before extra time let us down. The general order of penalty takers let us down. Yes, it is easier to lay the blame for it all on a single kick in a single moment, but each game is a 90min story and for 45+mins of that we were reading the wrong script.
It shouldn't have come to penalties. We were in total control in the first half. Italy changed things up and we retreated into a shell. You could just as easily argue had we not done that we would have gone on the win in normal time.
