Just to re-iterate what DancingBrave has said:

WEAPON'S AMNESTY, as short as 12-1 for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup with Blue Square, will not run this season after suffering a recurrence of a ligament injury, according to trainer Charles Byrnes.

Weapon's Amnesty has not run since landing the 2010 RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and was considered a leading contender for the 2011 Gold Cup.

However he sustained the ligament injury in the RSA and was then given a long rest by Byrnes and owner Michael O'Leary.

Weapon's Amnesty returned to work at Byrnes' yard this summer, but the trainer reported at Naas on Sunday that the Gigginstown House Stud-owned eight-year-old will now miss this season as well.

He said: "You can rule him out for the season. Solwhit will be out for a beginners' chase in about five weeks though."

Huge shame as he is a big talent. Those who are on Long Run ante-post must feel quite confident. Going to take a big improver to knock him off his perch.

Looks like it's curtains for Weapons Amnesty's career. It's beginning to remind me of Monsignor's short-lived career.

For what it's worth, if I had backed Long Run ante post, I wouldn't be atall concerned about Weapons Amnesty, Long Run was 5 years old in the RSA, and has improved alot since then.

This is a real shame for WA though, hes running out of time to make an impact at the highest level now, big shame

    True - there are similarities.
As for the 12s on offer for a Gold Cup win those odds were laughable for a horse who hadn't seen a racecourse in 18 months, it is however another casualty to a race (Gold Cup) that currently offers few viable alternatives to the reigning champion IMO

I agree, surely we wont see him race again, sad but will be for the best

I think he was probably 12s due to the fact beating Long Run in 2010- ludacris I know but he was a fairly decent horse. I was looking forward to seeinh him again!

Does this sad epsiode lend credence to the belief that the RSA can ruin horses? Or is it just a sad coincidence??
