Can I just ask @humanbeingincroydon would you get no joy at all if Harry scored the winner on Sunday and then lifted the trophy?

I know that you are clearly a very politically motivated person but putting that aside for 1 second, for most of us this is about sport and sport only, I despise politics and politicians they are all liars and cheats in my book and whoever was running the country would make political gain out of it be they Blue or Red.

    - Booing the anthem of Johnny Foreigner in the majority of games
    - Refusing to condemn Sterling for his dive and pointing the finger elsewhere
    - Mooing en masse when the opponents have the ball as if they're Angela Rayner making a statement at PMQs

That sounds uncannily like the Tories to me

And this is something I said in passing earlier, this attitude's been growing for a while to the point where we can't criticise Americans ever again. For example, remember at the 2012 Olympics where the crowds were booing any non-Brit who won an event? That's the exact same behaviour that made the 1996 Olympics impossible to watch due to the American crowd booing any non-American who won an events, and we've gone the exact same way in spite of one small issue with that: there's no justification for it

Same goes for the last World Cup, where before the tournament people were damping expectations saying it was a young team, and yet after a last minute winner against world champions Tunisia what was everyone saying? HashtagItsComingHome, and not just the fans as I remember Raheem Sterling tweeting the exact same thing out at the time even though Tunisia haven't won anything of note since the Second Punic War

Also, that hashtag, it's ****ing stupid. We already have football at home. It's called the Premier League, last time I checked...

Well for one thing I'd rather Jordan Henderson put it past Jordan Pickford at the other end

Let's see how committed the red half of Merseyside are to this "Scouse not English" bollocks...

The Scandinavians and Dutch do seem to be very comfortable in the own skin. They seem to have a different culture, less concerned with status, wealth and self- importance than comfort, respect and happiness. It is very noticeable.

It won't be a holiday for Cambodia...
Not sure how North Korea and Japan ended up in the same group, to be honest. Weird seeding?

All this would do is reinforce the obnoxious dullard box , a win will show what this team are made of, children of immigrants who stand for a better England , young men who stand together and wont be beaten by the knuckle draggers who boo another nations anthem and sing about wars that most of their grandparents fought in to prevent the fascism that they now seem intent on promoting

You come across as very joyless. Booing the national anthems of other countries is despicable and an embarrassment to the country. I had no misgivings about condemning what I saw as a blatant dive and have argued with friends about it. Angela Rayner is one of my favourite politicians and your frankly sexist comment is unworthy. As a member of the Shadow cabinet she wouldn't take part in PMQs unless Johnson was away and the deputies take over.
There is behaviour of our fellow countrymen that I cannot abide, but I desperately want to see HK lift that trophy on Sunday.

And what will a loss do?

Pundits blaming Harry Kane for not scoring as if the other nine outfield players are blameless for not creating chances
Batshit conspiracy theories rather than accepting Italy might have been the better team
Various players getting abuse or even death threats on social media, most likely those who are children of immigrants
The gammonati jumping up and down screeching "See!!! Taking the knee did NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Football still being home, since it's not like it left home to spend more time with it's more fun relatives in Spain or Germany

...wait a minute, those things have already been happening all tournament long

Saying that rows of Tory backbenchers mooing especially hard when Angela Rayner speaks at PMQs is not sexist. It's calling rows of Tory backbenchers sexist for always having that little bit of extra vitriol when a woman with a regional accent speaks, as well as begging the question whether this conversation ever happens

"Did you see our MP today?"
    "No, what did he do?"
"He bawled at that Rayner woman for two minutes straight. That should put her in her place"

As for seeing Harry Kane winning a trophy, I'd rather he did it with us. Don't want him getting ideas about winning trophies with other teams, especially since pundits keep on saying how they think the Kane/Sterling partnership would look very, very good every week

the Sheikh Mansour Team don't agree, they were offering us Sterling + £2.50 for Kane a couple of weeks back

Obviously that means they're not true patriots and should start the season on -20 points

Fair enough I withdraw the sexist remark, but your comment was unclear. I read....
Mooing .... as if they're Angela Rayner making a statement at PMQs
But clearly you meant something else.

No need. We already have a better player for that position who actually passes the ball to Kane

I would think Mansour is probably quite patriotic for his own country.

I agree on the stadiums, but I’m at least happy they are trying to take measures to ensure that those in the ground are not going to cause a mass infection event. Street parties are more worrying in that regard but they’re much harder to police.

On your first point, I can’t put words in DH’s mouth, but my impression is that the vast majority of fans have been caught up in the euphoria of England doing well, and regardless of your views on UK politics have probably been thinking about sport first and foremost these last few weeks. That’s even more so when we’re posting on a football forum which has a specific politics thread to keep those discussions separate.

(That’s not me trying to shut this discussion down btw, because I think it’s an interesting one, but just that it’s not where most of our minds immediately go.)

I certainly don’t think DH’s posting in the heat of the moment proves your point though. More that just at that particular point in time it wasn’t really what the vast majority of people were thinking about in the aftermath of a win.

They could look at England as Greater Denmark, considering Danish people conquered England 3 1/2 times.

I'm loving all the fun, excitement, hope & nerves atm. Love seeing all the flags in peoples gardens & cars. There's even a building site nearby where the builders have placed cross of St. George flags all around it, looks great. I was 24 when England won the last major trophy. I'm 79 now so I'm jolly well going to enjoy the great atmosphere created. Plus the fact that OUR Captain at Tottenham Hotspur is also the ENGLAND Captain fills me with pride. I just cannot comprehend how politics comes into it. We reached the final, brilliant, the last thing that enters my head is anything political. Its football for heavens sake, chill out and enjoy and as for hoping your own country loses, well how sad a life is that.....COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!! (COYS)
