Hi all. Hope you are all well. Any sore heads after last nights football? The going at Chepstow says it is Soft but it’s forecasted to be dry there tomorrow, so should be Good to Soft. Only the one fancy - Theotherside, 6:45 Chepstow. Stand out performance was his run in Salisbury; 6f race on Good to Soft. Can’t imagine it being a big price; most likely 11/4.
The racing in Ireland nothing but packed fields again, not sure if this is a good thing or not, but most of the horses do not even have a chance and then there is always the few who have been beaten out of sight in multiple runs that goes and wins well. Or the typical Joseph O'brien improver, nudge nudge wink wink, say no more. Today at Kilbeggan we have 18, 16, 17, 17, 17, 9, 17, and 14 runner races. In Cork we have 21, 21, 21, 21, 21, 6, and 21 in each race. The theme continues tomorrow at Navan and Limerick. Strictly from a racing point, it is good, competitive action for the most part. Hard to predict with so many variables among each race, but from a punting perspective I find these events that occur through most of the summer here to be little more than a benefit for the bookmakers. From a selfish viewpoint, it would be great to add another meeting to help dilute these monstrosities at times, to give us a better handle on the action but I feel these large fields play into the strength of the bookmaker now, and I think there is probably no greater power in racing at the moment, which is a crying shame really.
Morning I like to follow Mark Johnston on the July course 3.00-Hochfeld Each Way @ 16-1 [Paddy Power] 5 places
Ew Lucky 15/Acca: 2:05 York - Furzig 9/1 2:40 York - Dandalla 8/1 3:50 York - Bollin Margaret 8/1 4:25 York - Duesenberg 12/1 (I might actually be able to buy myself one if this lot comes in)
In what used to be the Cherry Hinton the Albany 1-2 face off in a rematch. That race was my highlight of the Royal Meeting with Sandrine selected EW at 16/1 and coupled with Hello You at 5/1. The Forecast paid roughly £90 and paid for the meeting. The question today is whether Hello You can reverse the form? The ground was soft at Ascot and I was a bit concerned to see Hello You so prominent. I had a feeling she was going to be swamped in the closing stages but to her credit she saw off everything bar the strong finishing Sandrine, It was a better result for me financially that day but with Sandrine 2/1 Fav this time I had to go with Hello You at 11/4. I feel the better ground may suit the daughter of Invincible Spirit and she had looked very useful when routing her field on debut. Both fillies should progress again but while Sandrine is rated 4 lbs higher I am hoping the very different surface will aid Hello You. Oscula was not far behind in the Albany but she has run four times and perhaps lacks the scope for improvement of the twice raced fillies. Flotus flopped last time but had looked very smart on debut. The Crisford filly may do better on fast ground for the first time but it's hard to shake that poor effort as beaten favourite in the Albany. 2.25 Newmarket Hello You 11/4
After the Classic generation emphatically won the Eclipse, it would seem that the bookmakers have decided that they are better than the older horses. The front four in the Falmouth Stakes betting are all three year olds, three of them representing the Coronation Stakes form of Royal Ascot. On the heavy ground that day Alcohol Free reversed 1000 Guineas form with Mother Earth whilst Snow Lantern came home second and Pretty Gorgeous just added further evidence that she has not trained on with a second woeful effort as favourite after the Irish 1000 Guineas. Will the quicker ground be the undoing of Alcohol Free and help Snow Lantern progress past her? Primo Bacio beat Snow Lantern at York last time but was behind Alcohol Free in the Fred Darling, so the form has a very mixed look about it. Saffron Beach may not have stayed in the Oaks but was second to Mother Earth in the Guineas before that. The form of the older fillies and mares revolves around the Duke Of Cambridge at the Royal meeting, run on the Wednesday before the deluge. Indie Angel won comfortably and is re-opposed by runner-up Lady Bowthorpe, favourite Queen Power, fourth Champers Elysees and fifth Lavender’s Blue. Again the form has a mixed up look as when four of them met in the Dahlia Stakes, Indie Angel was fourth behind Lavender’s Blue in third with Lady Bowthorpe beating Queen Power in a photo. The first two were on seasonal debut that day. I think that there may be a change of tactics of the Jarvis filly today. When successful in the Dahlia and when second in the Lockinge, she was held up and produced in the final quarter of a mile whilst at Ascot she was near the pace. So I am giving LADY BOWTHORPE a second chance now at level weights. Given that Champers Elysees had a Group 1 penalty at Ascot, she looks over-priced as an each-way chance today.

Not good enough. I forgave her Ascot run on soft ground.but the ground made no difference. Will be interested to see the sectionals as she pulled her chance away early on Great performance by Sandrine who has proved her versatility re ground conditions
Sandrine won in a very likeable fashion but it is hard to get carried away about the quotes for the 1000 Guineas 2022. Whilst she certainly was not stopping over this six furlongs, a cursory analysis of her pedigree sees it overloaded with sprinters. Her sire Bobby’s Kitten won over an extended mile but is best remembered for winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Her dam Seychelloise won four times over six and seven furlongs so we have to look at the grand-dam Starlit Sands (by Oasis Dream) for any stamina but she won three sprints as a juvenile. Sandrine for the Moyglare Stud Stakes next? A Group 1 over seven furlongs will answer some questions or raise some new ones.
The Falmouth Stakes sees Alcohol Free favourite to confirm form with Snow Lantern and Mother Earth from the Coronation Stakes at Ascot. The Balding filly was reversing form with Mother Earth from the 1000 Guineas and also proved that she stayed a mile. I managed to back Alcohol Free the only time she was beaten last season and I had doubts about her on the Heavy ground at Royal Ascot but she did the business. Snow Lantern ran a cracker there after being disappointing when too free in her previous race. I have seen a few people who feel the Hannon filly will get the better of it this time but she seems weak in the betting today. You would think there could be more to come from Snow Lantern, Mother Earth surprised me in winning the Guineas, as she has seemed exposed after numerous starts as a 2YO but Aidan O'Brien has a habit of pulling one out of the bag with these well raced fillies and Snowfall was another who seemed to take a huge leap forward after looking static last year. Mother Earth has not year managed to add to her 1000 Guineas win but back at Newmarket it seems she is positive in the betting today. Primo Bacio upset Snow Lantern when winning in what looked an improved showing last time. She missed Royal Ascot on account of the ground and now gets the chance to prove she is on the up. More improvement will be required but she looked quite impressive in a race where the focus was on Snow Lantern and how she hadn't settled. Saffron Beach was runner up in the 1000 Guineas and I felt she had no chance of staying in the Oaks but connections sent her on a fool's errand anyway. I am not keen when horses get messed around up and back down in trip but she is a big price today for a Classic runner-up back to the same trip. Pretty Gorgeous is another at a big price considering she was last season's champion 2YO filly. She had bad blood tests and missed the Newmarket Guineas, so was entitled to need her Irish 1000 Guineas outing. She shaped with a little promise that day but drowned into 7th place on the heavy ground. better effort came in the Coronation but she faded into 5th, again meeting heavy ground. I thought that she went off favourite for both of those races based on having soft ground form but she didn't run as if enjoying the ground on both occasions. 16/1 today and on better going I felt she was worth one more poke in the hope that the very different ground may suit her. The older fillies are not particularly fancied but Lady Bowthorpe ran a belter behind Palace Pier and Queen Power dotted up at York. The Stoute horse is a bit infrequent in visiting the winner's enclosure though and Lady Bowthorpe looked to be rated 7 lbs too high to my eyes for chasing home the top Miler. A tricky race where I though EW on Pretty Gorgeous five places was a play and Primo Bacio for the win was also worth a dabble. 3.35 Newmarket Primo Bacio 13/2 Pretty Gorgeous 14/1 EW (Five places)
Hello You was too free, pulling away in behind as the jockey tried to get cover. In the end Sandrine won well but it probably cost Hello You, as she was run down for second and denied a repeat of the Albany result. I am always suspicious of 6F fillies for the Guineas but Sandrine could not have done it much better today. On her at 16/1 last time but couldn't play at the odds today so no doubt connections will be glad she didn't have the 10 lbs penalty of my cash. Hello You will need to settle better and she looks a pure sprinter to me.
In the Falmouth today i was hoping Doyle would be on Snow Lantern but Levey it is. I am going with her. Dprawn 13 i think they will have to go for it from the stalls. Only victory came from dictating and in my mind is how she should be ridden.
15:35 Newmarket - Saffron Beach (Stuck in the mud at Epsom, but form good beforehand, including second in 1000 Gns. Has a squeak in the Falmouth today.)
I like the 5/1 on Snow Lantern, thought she would be about 7/2, I fancied her to beat these fillies in the Guineas and I think has a good chance today, if she settles better we might see why Hannon said she could be better than Sky Lantern. Been some nice performances at this meeting, Baaeed yesterday obviously and liked Noble Truth in the first race today, looks a bit of a nutter but has plenty of ability. Far better product than Ascot and punters cant go far wrong with results like yesterday and today.
