That’s a fascinating transfer rumour. How do we rate him? He’s had all the opportunity so why has he not caught fire for other clubs yet?
Let's face it we are linked with just about everyone, after all the big talk of a few weeks ago I must admit to being underwhelmed so far by our signings, a goalkeeper in his thirties from Salford doesn't set the pulses racing for me.
I haven't heard anything about him at Almeria but I remember him being one to watch at Forest. If he is still that player and it's permanent it would be an amazing signing.
Considering pre season starts tomorrow, I was hoping for a few more in by now (centre backs a must) need the new team to practice and play together as much as possible before season starts
Very good signing, ffs guys, Ashton has stayed that there will be at least 5 more, so chill. Yorkie, calm the feck down, we can't sign about 12 new players in a week, these things take time!!
You said ' but we still need more' insinuating a lack of patience, well that's how I read it. I was saying that there is more coming, they know we need more and will bring in more, so no need to say it.
Good news. We’ve got a substantially new team already so we’re already a long way from where we were a few weeks ago at season end. Xmas is also the window to see some big additions as things evolve for players. Also we beat off a lot of competition for this guy so I hope we have paid a fair price for his services and he can deliver a proper ROI.
So just to expand on my point Spanish - we need more good striking options. We don't know how many more players are coming in or what positions they will be, or their calibre but I think it would be a tall order to recruit enough players by August to cover the areas that are still weak or needing cover - which is still all over the park. We can make do in some areas but we can't compromise on recruiting goal scorers.
Lets all chill out and see how the next few weeks pan out. Lots of new faces come in and it will take a while for staff, managers, trainers, officers, players and us too, to adapt. If we get some decent results early on, confidence grows then we will surely attract a few more high quality players come Xmas. I am expecting top 10 this Autumn, and with luck and an uplifting, new clamour of PR support, top 6 by Easter. Now that is realistic. By then, new and old players will gel, know each other, play in their right positions, be scoring from any position, and play with boldness, freedom of spirit, creating a host of chances and this Old Gaffer will be loving his Saturdays and having his Club back!
My issue now is that I’ve been watching and supporting the incredible England side and my expectation for Ipswich this season will be to play like the first half hour against Italy - more or less the 1970 Brazil side. Good luck with that Paul Cook.
